Top sights in Dubai
The most breathtaking view in Dubai is from the top of the Burj Khalifa, but how do you take a photo that illustrates just how tall the world's tallest building is? Here are our top five spots in Dubai for taking amazing photos of this architectural giant.
The Palm Islands are the two artificial islands off the coast of Dubai. You'll get incredible views across the marina, looking back at the city.
From the Waterfall Entrance on the Lower Ground level of the Dubai Mall, the world's biggest mall, you get two views at once: the Burj Khalifa and the romantic Dubai Fountains water show.
Jumeirah is known as the Beverly Hills of Dubai. This public beach stretches along the south coast from the junction of the Palm Jumeirah Island.
Most lounges inside this luxury hotel offer brilliant vistas of the Burj Khalifa. We suggest afternoon tea on the Risala terrace, or drinks in the Neos sky lounge (on the 63rd floor).
Located 3 kilometers from the Burj Khalifa, this green space offers a dose of tranquility within the city - and unique photos looking back across the lake, towards Dubai's skyscrapers.
Be patient and get creative. The Burj Khalifa is so tall that it will look out of proportion compared to almost everything else in the city! This gives you a serious chance to go on a photography mission, and a really fun excuse to explore all that Dubai has to offer (perhaps with an organized tour!).
Once you've taken an incredible photo, make sure you go to the At The Top observation deck inside Burj Khalifa and celebrate. Tip: Buy a skip-the-line ticket in order to avoid up to 1.5-hour wait times.
The summer season will be cheapest, but it will also be incredibly hot. From November to April, the temperatures will be plenty warm for the beach without being too overwhelming. One additional planning tip: the holy month of Ramadan (when many Dubai locals will be fasting from dawn until dusk) has a big impact on the city's tourist hotspots.
- When should I visit?
- Hours vary from season to season, but the At The Top observation deck is usually open from 12:00 PM - 9:30 PM daily.
- Is it expensive?
- The prices vary based on time of day, ticket time and additional tour options.
- Will I need a guide?
- If you want one, of course! Whether you want to explore the city of Dubai, or specifically learn more about the architecture from the At The Top observation deck at the Burj Khalifa, there is a helpful tour guide to suit your needs.
- How to get there
- The Burj Khalifa is located in the heart of Dubai. Standing high at 163 floors tall, you won't be able to miss it.
- Additional information
- FYI: The average wait time is 1.5 hours for tickets purchased at the door.
- Make a note that the month of Ramadan will affect attraction opening times. Plan ahead when making travel plans to Dubai.
What people are saying about Burj Khalifa
This is a special way of seeing the tower. Not cheap, but worth the extra for the quietness and space to relax in the wonderful setting whilst enjoying a delicious set of sandwich & cake nibbles. You can eat as much as you want to and only have to pay for alcoholic drinks. The weather was hazy when we visited, so the view wasn't great into the distance (even from floor 154 !), but it didn't spoil the overall experience. If you'd just booked a ticket to see the view from floors 123/4 and it was hazy, it might have spoilt it. We went in at 3pm and left around 6pm (2 hours in the lounge and an hour looking round the rest of the tower) and there was a large queue for 'standard' tickets (even though it is 'off-season'), so if you go in Oct-Mar, this 'fast-track' option of high-tea makes even more sense. Would advise anyone to take this treat if you can.
Overall it was amazing experience - we went on a ride around the lake about 10mph (16km/h), because we went at night time the lights and scene looked amazing plus it wasn’t too hot. Once the ride around was over the driver paused at a good location to watched the fountain display. That was stunning !!! The water and music were so in sync. I would definitely recommed it - they take your photos before you get on and once when your settled in the boat - with the option to purchase later (my sister loved the one on the boat so she purchased it for 75aed). I felt for 1 photo 75aed was expensive but thats your choice. The ride only lasted just over 15mins - i felt that was really short. But it was worth it. If price is your main area of hesistation you can watch the water display from the sides which is just as memorising.
On arrival at the Burg Khalifa counter to exchange our voucher for tickets we were given the opportunity to upgrade to the 148th floor. We decided to do this. Only 20 of us in our group, you can stay all day if you wish. Therefore no crowds. We were also given Arabic tea and nibbles in the viewing lounge which is very nice. We were able to go outside on the viewing deck. We were also able to go down to the 124th and 125th floors. There was a haze so our photos aren’t fabulous. For me it was the experience of being so high up, such an amazing building. There aren’t a lot of tourists in Dubai in July. It really wasn’t necessary to buy tickets in advance but it doesn’t matter either way. I imagine it would be advisable during peak times. We had no problem finding where to exchange our vouchers.
I had booked this trip from England, for my family and I. Amira our travel guide was fantastic speaking English and German, very impressive! We had a small tour of only 7 people so we felt very special. The shuttle picks you up from your hotel and drops you back there, which is perfect and so convenient. You see SO much, more or less of everything in Dubai, in such a short space of time. If you are in Dubai for a few days, it is great. Everything is explained in so much detail and you learn so much about how fantastic Dubai really is. Fantastic service and a fantastic activity. Thank you so much!
The price was definitely the deciding factor and it was well worth it. Easy to collect the tickets from the Burj and then for entry into the Aquarium and Underwater Zoo. Queues for the Burj were minimal (time of year perhaps?) - slightly longer for the Aquarium. The Aquarium was disappointing - just a tunnel. However, the Xoo was great although the crocodiles were fake and the penguins right at the end make you a little sad considering the limited space they had. We were Grandmother, Mother and Son aged 8 and had a great day so would recommend.
