What people are saying about Budapest
The meeting point is situated around a 10-15 minute walk from Jaszai Mari ter along the riverside, and was relatively easy to distinguish from the other docks. Upon arriving we were a little concerned about the state of the boat, and relieved when we realise our boat was behind another boat being renovated. The free cup of mulled wine was welcomed. There was also an option to purchase more drinks if you wanted. There was a choice of seats inside or outside, if you could brave the cold, although blankets were available. Glad we chose the cruise at 6pm as it coencided with sunset, and we got to see the city transform as the lights gradually came on. Perfect if you want an hour long no frills cruise, which is just what we were after. Was quick getting on the boat and showing the mobile ticket.
Had a welcome drink and choice of either orange juice or a cocktail as soon as we boarded. There is a bar in the boat, and the waitress will come to your table to ask if you want anything off the menu. Mind you the whole cruise is just an hour so the welcome drink was enough to fuel us for the quick tour. The cruise itself was magical, we did the golden hour of 7.30pm, and just about finished before it went dark. The pier where you meet is north of Budapest, and opposite of Margaret Island so before the cruise ends, the waitress goes around to ask if you want a taxi booked when you dock. We got this tour because of the price, and given how inexpensive it was, apart from the location I recommend the cruise!
For the price of the cruise it was good. There was a delay in boarding and during the cruise due to the additional restrictions on the Danube. The welcome drink was disappointing so we just ordered drinks once we set off. There’s no commentary, live music or anything with this but that’s what we wanted, a ‘no frills’ approach... if you get onboard, sit outside as that’s the only way to get a really good view.
Budapest is a combination of two cities Buda and Pest and most of the attractive architecture is built around the Danube river. So when you are in the city, you have to take the site-seeing Cruise, especially at night. It was like being in a fairytale, the city is gorgeous at night and the Danube river is the best place to appreciate the well-lit architectural marvels around the city. I highly recommend it.
For the price it was worth it. The boat was clean. However, no safety briefing announcement. Although a menu was provided, it didn't seem to have any snacks / beverages were available to purchase. A welcome drink was available. I saw blankets in the corner, but staff did not interact at all - in fact I only saw someone when we disembarked.
