What people are saying about Auckland
Our tour guide Louise was amazing and very knowledgeable, friendly plus her driving skills could rival that of some F1 drivers..not that she was driving fast but how she controlled the VAN! She gave us so much information about New Zealand and at no time during the whole 9 hours were we bored. She gave us so much information and took us so some hidden spots as well. The drive itself is BEAUTIFUL!As a LOTR fan the hobbiton tour was spectacular. The (one free) beers at the end are delicious. Our guide Adam was very good. Only thing is that you cant enter the hobbit holes just take pics outside and look inside but not physically enter. The glow worm caves were awesome too! It’s a treat for your senses We were guided by a great great grandson of the caves founder which made it so authentic .Make sure you wear comfortable clothing and shoes that can deal with mud and slightly wet areas. If you are looking to book the glow worm cave and hobbiton look no further than these guys.
If you love the hobbit or Lord of the Rings this trip is a must! It’s an early day but Nick, our driver, got us there before the crowds and everyone goes on the same length tour through Hobbiton itself which is just gorgeous- over 40 hobbit holes and the Green Dragon is very nice too! The Waitomo caves were incredible- our guide gave us the history of the limestone caverns and her people’s connection to them. Her great great grandfather was the chief of the local Maori people who discovered the caverns and they have been running tours since the late 1800s! The gloworm looked like constellations above us but you can’t take any pictures!
We joined small tour group which Nick was driving for us. The Hobbiton was so great because everything from the movie was just in front of you!!!! We went Waitomo Cave after that and it was also great. Both were life time experiences. I would like to say thank you to Nick because he always cared about us and talked about lots of trivias about Auckland! Even we were from Japan, we understood because he talked really slow for tourists. Thank you very much Nick! We had a great time in New Zealand!!!!
We thoroughly enjoyed the museum, but don't let it's name fool you - the museum does have an exhibit that showcases New Zealand's participation in WWII, but it also features a large natural history section and an early peoples exhibit. I particularly enjoyed the natural history exhibit as the knowledge I gained helped me during the rest of our 12-day trip. I was even able to answer some of our guide's questions during our excursion down into the Waitomo glowworm caves :)
Our guide David was excellent. We managed to get out early to catch the sunrise (and some beautiful photos) of the Matamata area around Hobbiton and were the first tour of the day (nobody else to get in your shots!) The New Zealand scenic routes were fantastic to get a taste of New Zealand outside the larger towns and David's tips were extremely helpful for where to go and what to look for at each location.
