Explore the food markets of Athens on a 4-hour walking tour and taste some of the delicious treats on offer. Visit local stores selling the "Green Treasures" of Greece, such as olive oil, wines, mushrooms, herbs and traditionally made pastas and salamis.

Start with a traditional Greek breakfast of koulóuria (sesame bread rings) in a century-old café, and then make your way to a tiny pastry shop to sample loukoumades (Greek donuts) and custard-filled filo squares.

Enjoy local pies and cheeses at authentic Greek bakeries and cheese stores.

Next, wander through the meat and fish market, the living monument markets of the city. Try some home-grown and roasted coffee, and visit specialty shops to purchase fresh fruit, olives, cheese, ham and other deli produce. Enjoy some local wine, organic produce olive oil and honey, seven years old aromatized vinegars and the world famous Greek yoghurt produced at family farms, at a small shop that sells awesome gifts for your friends back home.

Wander down Evripidou Street, scented by herbs. Try organic olive oils at a small shop that sells awesome gifts for your friends back home. Then end your culinary exploration at the deli stores of the historic city center where your guide will make you complimentary gifts to take back home.

Wonderful tour, and is about food and much more. I was at the meeting spot about 10 minutes early, as was the guide. I was the only one so it was a private tour. The guide, Anabelia, was marvelous. A wealth of information on Greece, the food, the history, the culture. She has a love for Athens and the people that is evident all the time. The food vendors know her and light up when she greets them. Even children along the way would get a big smile on their face as she greets them along the way. We visited coffee shops, meat/fish/vegetable markets, bakeries...the list goes on and on. This tour was a highlight of my time in Athens.

We loved our food tour! We tasted everything, from savory to sweet, in the company of a guide who was informative, funny, and charming. It was more like being shown around town by a friend than following a guide. The food was wonderful and there was no pressure to make purchases.

Although this was a 4 hour walking tour, the pace was leisurely with lots of stops to learn about and to enjoy a large variety of Greek food. We tasted pastries, coffee, gyros, vinegars, olive oils, olives sausages and more at small local shops as well as visits to the meat, fish and vegetable markets.
