Full description
London, Berlin, New York, or Paris normally come to mind when street art is mentioned. Athens, however, is often overlooked and yet is a city rich in graffiti art.

Street art emerged in the Greek capital around 1998. The art form really took off, developing its distinctive style over the past 10 years, particularly as the country’s economic crisis unfolded.

This 3-hour guided tour offers an alternative way to experience Athens and take a look at what’s happening at its core.

A vested interest in art isn’t required to enjoy this activity. All you need is curiosity and receptiveness to the fantasy, colors, and meanings of the works you encounter, as you look at Athens in a fresh and unconventional way.
Includes
  • English-speaking guide
  • Map of neighborhoods visited (with the locations of main street art creations indicated)

I found this tour particularly exceptional. Athens is covered in street art and this was the perfect way to learn more about its messages and the artists behind the works. As an art lover and one who grew up around street art and artists in Australia I was particularly interested to hear about its development in Greece. But more importantly, I wanted to learn more about the social and political issues and beliefs of modern Greece - which is found through the art. Nikos and the works he showed delivered that in spades. It was such a fabulous way to see the city and to get underneath its skin to learn more about its beating heart and what concerns those of my generation and younger.

This tour was super fun and one of the highlights of our trip. Nikos, our guide, showed us around parts of Athens for the unique and beautiful street art we otherwise would not have seen. Nikos was very knowledgeable about the various pieces we saw during our tour and was able to answer all our questions and shared some interesting facts about the history of Athens. He also recommended some awesome bars and restaurants to check out and those did not disappoint. 5 Stars all day, every day.

Excellent experience that is worth every penny!

I joined the tour on the 16th May, we were a small group of 4 which was excellent as we were able to talk a lot, ask questions and discuss about what we saw during the tour. Nikos, our guide, perfect guide by the way, showed us another side of Athens, the authentic and the contemporary one that is not seen by most of the tourists. We got to know how street art reflects the society and Nikos discussed with us the meaning behind every piece of street art, which could be a social, political or simply artistic one. We have visited different places in an area where tourists could hardly be seen. Nikos is a great guide, knowledgeable and informative, very kind, funny, open-minded, patient, talkative and extremely friendly. We all had a great time with him and I really enjoyed the tour, it was indeed interesting. We took a coffee break too in a non touristy neighborhood, just like hanging out with some old friends. We enjoyed our conversation a lot. Highly recommended!
