Full description
This epic trip begins with pickup from Arusha city or Kilimanjaro airport, before transfer to Moshi to meet your guide. After a briefing with your guide, get kitted out with all the necessary gear for the trek and prepare for your adventure. After breakfast on the second day, drive to Marangu gate where the journey begins. Trek uphill for about 4-5 hours through the lush montane forest to reach your accommodation for the night at Mandara Hut.

Day three starts with an early wake up and leaves the last glades of the rainforest behind as you enter into the heath and moorland zone. Admire your first glimpse of the Mawenzi and Kimbo Peaks in the distance, and pass through beautiful fields of heather as the mountainside gradually opens up. Arrive at Horombo Hut in the mid-afternoon and spend some time relaxing and recuperating your energy from the morning walk. Admire the stunning surrounding scenery while the chefs prepare dinner, then spend 2 days at Horombo to acclimatize. On the extra day, enjoy a 4-hour round trip hike to Mawenzi Hut, visiting the Zebra Rocks on the way.

On day five, begin to gradually climb towards the lunar desert of the Saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. These walks will be at a slow pace until you reach Kibo Hut to spend the night and gain your strength for the next day. Your guide wakes you up just before midnight on the sixth day with some hot tea and snacks. Then it's time to bundle up warm and start the uphill climb. This is the toughest day of the trip, but at sunrise you will be rewarded with breathtaking views of Mawenzi, Kibo and the plains below.

Slowly wind your way over rocky outcrops until you reach the crater at Gillman’s Point. The toughest part of the climb is over now, as there is only about 2 hours to Uhuru Peak, the summit, where a truly epic view awaits you. Spend about half an hour celebrating at the summit before descending towards Horombo. On the seventh say, hike down past Mandara Hut to the exit gate, where successful climbers receive their summit certificates. Finally, travel back to your hotel in Moshi for a well-deserved hot shower and a farewell dinner with your guides.
