What people are saying about Alnwick
Niel was wonderful. I found Alnwick very cheesy and hype-centered; I wish I'd done the gardens instead of the castle. As a mildly disabled person, I found parts of this tour too lengthy to complete within the time given, and I did not attempt the lengthy walks to/around the castles either on the Holy Island or the last castle of the day. I took my photos from a distance. Alnwick also involved a large amount of walking.
We drove down to the castle from Edinburgh and had 3 hours in the castle. Paul, our guide, was right it was not enough time as there is so much to see. Missed out on the archery and the broomstick lessons but the castle rooms are magnificent. Only thing that would have made it better would be audio guides. Th drive back to Edinbugh was via the coast, which was really beautiful. Thanks Paul!
The quick trip down to Alnwick was great as we had lots of time to explore the castle grounds, gardens, and the tree house all on the same property. Exploring some of the living quarters of the castle was amazing to see how Dukes and Earls have lived throughout history. On top of the that you can see some spots that were used in movies like Harry Potter and Tv's Downtown Abbey.
We went on a larger tour the day before and much prefer this tour. Large van, great driver, Allan, learned history, saw historical sites, and kids loved Alnwick! They had broom flying lessons and more:).
Graham was an excellent host. His knowledge of the local history and ability to impart that knowledge in such an interesting manner made the day a wonderful experience.
