What people are saying about Agios Nikolaos
After collecting all the people from their hotel we headed from Heraklion to Agios Nikolaos where we had possibility to look around, buying gifts and coffe. On the way our guide told the story of Spinalonga in 3 different languages (!).After 1 hour break we headed to Spinalonga where the next boat was reserved for our tour only and it wasn't crowded. The 1 hour on Spinalonga is short if you want to explore everything properly, but if you just walk around the island, it's enough. After the visit of Spinalonga we had 1hour to eat at the port of Plaka and enjoying the view of Spinalonga. Then we headed to Elounda where swimming was optional (1hour free time). It's a very well organised day, with lots of useful historical information, quick access to Spinalonga. We can recommend it to everyone.
The boat trip can be difficult for many people due to choppy waves. If you get sick from boat trips then you won't enjoy this trip. However, Santorini is well worth viewing. Unfortunately it is loved to death by the foreign traveller and you will find the crush of the crowd unpleasant. We did enjoy our experience, however, particularly an excellent meal at a Santorini restaurant overlooking the caldera. It is a very full and tiring day but worthwhile if you have stamina and are not affected by boat motion.
This is a fabulous island to visit with stunning scenery. I was really impressed with the organisation of this trip - our guide was excellent in her presentation of information about life on Santorini, the historical perspective, a little of how the island was formed, and local plants etc. I would recommend people to visit in spring time as there were more than enough tourists here already! It was windy and we had some rough weather on the ferry trip back.
Comfortable bus ride to East coast of Crete, followed by a boat ride by a local charter, lunch on board with a stop on Spinalonga, finishing with a short stop in Agios Nikolaos. Wish we would have visited the island before swimming in the bay. Avoid buying any food/drink at Spinalonga: huge rip off (5 euro for 330 ml of water???). Otherwise, decent way to spend the day.
Our trip was canceled last minute without real explanation. After we complained, they rebooked us for the following day and after some issues with pick-up and vouchers, it was a wonderful experience on Santorini. Our guide Athina was absolutely fantastic and the detour to the archeological site akrostiri proposed by the driver Mario was a wonderful addition to the trip.
