What people are saying about Wieliczka Salt Mine

Expensive but just about worth it as a one off experience

The tours are quite expensive but worth it as a one off trip if you are in Krakow. Would not go again though due to cost. The salt mine tour was a little rushed and could have been a little more slower to allow us to look around as well as time to have something to eat in the restaurant. The guide was good and had a touch of sardonic wit which was amusing The factory tour part allowed us to avoid the large queue outside and was very educational as it was about the history of NAZI occupation of Krakow during WW2 which was different and more horrific than the experiences perhaps of countries that were not occupied. Could have spend longer reading through the displays but time was limited on the tour. The displays were not arranged in a way that made the tour easy though. However if you are expecting to have a tour of Schindlers factory as it was in 1940's then you will be disappointed. There is some information on Schindler etc but the tour is mainly about WW2 Krakow history.

Very well organised tour, well worth doing...

Excellent tour, very well organised, driver was polite, friendly and punctual. In total our tour lasted approx 11 hours (we were last pick up & first drop off, so may be longer for others). Drive to Auschwitz was approx 1.5hrs. We walked a total of 7.5 miles over both tours. Auschwitz is a hard and very emotional tour, the video in bus was very hard to watch. Auschwitz guide was excellent, she was very informative, easy to listen to and explained everything very well. Terrible place but glad we visited. Drive to Saltmine was approx 1hr 20mins, we had a break on arrived before starting our tour around 17.00.. Tour lasted a full 2.5hrs and was a good way to take your mind away from harrowing morning tour. There are plenty of places to get food at both venues. Definitely recommend this tour and tour company. Glad we crammed them both into 1 day!

Great morning out just 15 mins from centre of Krakow

Great trip. Driver late picking us up due to increased traffic - Global Environmental Summit. Couldn't be helped but we were waiting for about 30 mins to be picked up. Tour of the mines was great - lots of walking and not for those who are claustrophobic. Good guide very interesting. Annoyingly one of our party managed to lose their bearings and they were 40 mins late back to the car. Driver dropped us back in the Jewish Quarter which was good of him. Overall a good trip but a little pricey for what it was.

Very informative and we had an excellent driver

Thoroughly enjoyed our day out, it was a long day but we was aware of that. The tour to Auschwitz and Birkenau was very interesting and informative maybe some sort of microphone would be helpful at Birkenau though as it was hard to hear at the back. The salt mines were interesting and a welcome constast to the death camps. We enjoyed our trip out driver was prompt picking us up and was very friendly and helpful.

Auschwitz - the ultimate warning as to why we must protect freedom

Very sobering visit and extremely well run, from pick up and our excellent driver/guide Michal to our "onsite guide" Anna. I'll never be able to say I enjoyed Auschwitz, but I am very glad I went it reaffirms the need of all of us to speak out against unfairness and to defend freedom. The salt mine was interesting and well run but how do you follow an experience like Auschwitz?
