What people are saying about Wieliczka Salt Mine

Well worth the visit, and value for money

We went to the 4.30 tour on a Friday which was still busy. This was a group of about 12, differing ages 25-65, fortunately, all around the same level of fitness. Completed the tour in an hour and a half. Then queued around half an hour for life back up. Lifts hold 10 people including lift operators and are very small, so be prepared. Not an issue for me but maybe others if claustrophobic, though the journey back up is quick. Need to wear comfortable shoes, possibly an extra jkt or clothing, temperature in the mine is set at 17-18 degrees. Moving at a constant pace and relatively quickly, meant that I didn’t need extra clothing to keep warm. Initially a lot of steps (wooden) down to the mines. One set of steps (rock salt) to the largest chamber. Rock salt statues very impressive, and the chambers also gave us some respite from the sun as temperatures in Krakow and surrounding areas were in the 30’s in late August 2019.

Wieliczka Salt Mine: 4-Hour Guided Tour from Krakow Reviewed by Patricia, 01/09/2019

Absolutely Amazing and thought provoking!

Wow! What a day! Punctual pick up by Michael our driver, very comfortable bus journey throughout. Auschwitz-Birkenau tour extremely insightful and harrowing. The tour guide was exceptional and very respectful. Everything explained perfectly and his knowledge was second to none. Lunch was perfect! Lots of bottled water available to combat extensive heat. Salt mines exceptional and light relief after the camps. Amazing that there are nine levels and we got down to three, which incorporated the must exquisite salt formations. I never knew salt was so versatile, especially the church, which actually holds regular Sunday services and even Weddings! A must see! Overall an exceptional, well organised day and would totally recommend! Julia - England

Friendly driver and guide, comfortable journey.

I would rate the overall experience as good. However, I was almost left behind. On our way towards the exit, I received an important phone call and slowed down a little, but I was delayed only by a minute. The tour guide made a head count and led the group out towards the exit and the way out was closed behind them. Luckily the staff at the door were very helpful; they opened the door for me and I was able to join my group before they made their way towards the elevators. My suggestion for the guides is to make the head count carefully and to wait at least 2-3 minutes for anybody who might have been delayed due to a valid reason.

Auschwitz is a hard, but must see site and the Salt Mines are amazing!

This is a great tour at both venues. It is a long day, but worth it and we scheduled to do both in a day from Krakow. Our driver's personality left a bit to be desired and didn't really seem to like what he was doing. Fortunately, he wasn't our tour guide at the venues. The guides we had were great at both places. There was a bit too much time in Wieliczka for lunch and waiting for our appointed tour at the mines for some reason we didn't quite understand, but wondered the small town and found some ice cream to pass the time.

Very well organised, great value for money!

Obviously the subject matter of this tour is horrific and it is difficult to contextualise what these people suffered. None the less I strongly believe it must be experienced and these people never forgotten. To that end the tour we booked was fantastic. The driver and the tour guides were great and the whole experience was easy and convenient. The salt mines is an absolute must as well and genuinely stunned me, in a very different way to Auschwitz.
