What people are saying about Wieliczka Salt Mine

Expensive but just about worth it as a one off experience

The tours are quite expensive but worth it as a one off trip if you are in Krakow. Would not go again though due to cost. The salt mine tour was a little rushed and could have been a little more slower to allow us to look around as well as time to have something to eat in the restaurant. The guide was good and had a touch of sardonic wit which was amusing The factory tour part allowed us to avoid the large queue outside and was very educational as it was about the history of NAZI occupation of Krakow during WW2 which was different and more horrific than the experiences perhaps of countries that were not occupied. Could have spend longer reading through the displays but time was limited on the tour. The displays were not arranged in a way that made the tour easy though. However if you are expecting to have a tour of Schindlers factory as it was in 1940's then you will be disappointed. There is some information on Schindler etc but the tour is mainly about WW2 Krakow history.

Beautiful. Interesting. Informative. But not an Adventure.

The mine is great. It's a real treasure of miners' aesthetic genius. The Chapel of St. Kinga is indeed somewhat incredible. Staying inside, it's easy to believe in fairy tales about dwarfs and their underground palaces. Our guide was quite professional - she provided us an interesting information on the history of the mine as well as geology and prehistory of the region, the history of salt mining in the Carpathians and its technical improvement etc, etc. One important BUT: every day, 8,000 people visit the mine. Thus, the place is crowded. Inside, there is a flow of people. If visit, don't wait for solitude in deep underground. Better to visit with a tour. There are terrible queues for individual visitors!

Great morning out just 15 mins from centre of Krakow

Great trip. Driver late picking us up due to increased traffic - Global Environmental Summit. Couldn't be helped but we were waiting for about 30 mins to be picked up. Tour of the mines was great - lots of walking and not for those who are claustrophobic. Good guide very interesting. Annoyingly one of our party managed to lose their bearings and they were 40 mins late back to the car. Driver dropped us back in the Jewish Quarter which was good of him. Overall a good trip but a little pricey for what it was.

Superb, professional and informed driver. Couldn’t ask for more.

Patrick was so helpful and professional. I would highly recommend his services for this exhausting but inspirational day. Full of information about Krakow, he recommended excellent restaurants and took a detour at the end of the day to show us the fire breathing dragon at the foot of the castle ( unfortunately the dragon had run out of puff for which Patrick was most apologetic!). Planning another visit as we speak!

recommended to visit a such beautiful place

this was one of my beautiful visit experience...there`s over 800 stairs to go down but with a comfortable shoes you don`t even know that you have made it, but for the rest of your mind there will be an elevator to go up again....the tour leader was great and the audio system was perfect.i do recommend this tour its worth it.
