What people are saying about Wellington
Thoroughly enjoyed tour with our guide Kate who was friendly, enthusiastic and very knowledgeable about LOTR and the Hobbit. Even though all building sets have been removed from film locations (except Rivendell), Kate was able to explain the scenes shot through use of film clips and photos. Plenty of time for photo opportunities with fun props (eg. Legolas’ cloak and bow and arrow, the ring) as were in a group of 3 in morning and 7 in afternoon. Paid additional $28 for 40 minute WETA Workshop tour which was a little underwhelming. Enjoyed first half of tour with guide Kevin who was good but then he had to quickly go through second half as he was running behind schedule. Save your money and have a look the displays in the WETA Cave and mini museum instead.
The pathways were somewhat wet from the morning's rain so the weather was cool and humid! We chose to take a self-guided tour, which we had pre-paid online. The trails were either paved or packed dirt & gravel, and were easy to follow with the directional arrows. We thoroughly enjoyed the nature walk with opportunities to watch some of the bird life as they sang from above or feeding from raised platforms. The birds had learned that if they jumped onto the perch in front of the feeder on the platform, the feeder would open for them to get to the seeds that were protected inside a container that would close as soon as the bird flew off the feeder platform.
If you want to see pure New Zealand scenery with beautiful green hills, mountains and its rural environment and then experience the feeling of being at the edge of the world, and say hello to the colony of very relaxed seals, this trip is for you! Thanks to this activity I could experience something unforgettable and breathtaking, something I've always wanted to see. If you're around Wellington and even if you're in a hurry, I highly recommend you to choose this trip and see it for yourself. Our guide Grant was so polite, helpful and had great knowledge about the area and he made sure we could understand everything he said.
Laura, the guide, was fun and had loads of interesting tidbits of lotr filming information. We had plenty time to take pictures of locations and also got great views over wellington. Weta workshop was really interesting you get to see all the models and props up close and the guide is full of information. I loved the gift shop!!
The day was foggy in the morning and we were in the clouds when we went up Mt. Victoria. When I was collected at midday because I was the only one to only do a half day tour your driver took me up Mt. Victoria again as the weather had cleared and the view was magnificent. My photos are nice.
