Full description
Experience the most unique parts of Bulgaria on this private full-day tour. After pickup in Varna, cross the Balkan mountains and part of the Danube plains to Shumen to visit the incredible Founders of Bulgarian State monument. Opened in 1981, the monument is built in a communist art style that is huge and impressive, and also considered by many to be extremely strange.

After the monument the tour continues to Madara, a small village nearby. Here you can see the UNESCO World Heritage Madara Rider, a rock relief carved into a cliff face. The relief depicts typical riders from Asian nomad states, and the only example in Europe of such a carving from the early medieval era. Learn about the inscription in ancient Greek that honors the Bulgarian Khans.
