The guides (Phillip and Socrates) were completely awesome, funny, helpful & just amazing company to have around. To be honest, I was extremely excited to see the Northen lights which we did after our guides skillfully searched for a perfect space & we found the lights. But if for some reason that did not happen, our guides funny stories, folk tales, songs & conversations were amazing enough to be an experience on their own. When we found the spot with clear skies & free of light pollution, we set up the campfire & had food made, shared & everyone conversed, it was so much fun. It is advisable to bring high boots & wear very warm socks because most of us the tourists had a problem with our feet being extremely cold as most of us prepared for other parts of our body (i.e Coats, beanies, thick gloves). I wish could go on & on about how amazing the whole experience was but I would say, it is definitely worth the money & I would highly recommend it from the experience I got.
We had an amazing time on our tour. The weather changed every hour but the crew was well equipped and made sure we were comfortable at all times. The crew were super friendly, making us seem part of the family from the time we stepped on the pier! They love their jobs and it really shows! We saw dolphins and eagles on our tour. Kalinka made delicious soup that tasted like she made it at home. Delicious! It was my birthday (they didn´t know this in advance) and somehow managed to make me a biscuit cake! They also sang Happy Birthday in two languages! I can´t rave about this company and the crew (Kalinka, Peter, and the captain) enough!
Akos took us out to track the northern lights. We went out early September. We had fairly clear skies and observed an incredible light show at our first stop. Our guides are dedicated to sharing the magical experience and were willing to go to many different locations in the event we were not successful in finding the lights. They do everything they can to find the lights. We kept warm by a campfire they built and were provided hot beverages and marshmallows to roast while enjoying the spectacular light show. Would definitely recommend. Give yourself more than one night in Tromso just in case the lights/weather aren't cooperating.
We weren't sure we'd see the lights this early in September, but we got lucky with a clear night. Phillip and Phillip were lovely, explaining the cause of the lights and how they track them. We started out with a couple stops for beautiful sunset (totally a bonus) and then stopped on a beach for a fire and dinner. Slowly the light of day faded and eventually the Aurora appeared! As if that wasn't enough, they took us to three other stops, including pulling over on the side of the road when we spotted some incredible activity. We could not have been more lucky or grateful for this tour!
She started faint and was gone. And then she came again in a different spot. In and out. But after 3 hours wait, she came in quite strong and then really bright. Then she splashed through the sky and then she danced. And danced some more. Green and pink, and I believe purple too. It was indeed a show. And then she was gone. It's time to go home. And we were full. Philip our guide took us to the sweetest spot, by the water, away from the moonlight. He shared stories, and a nice warm meal, over fire. The bonfire and the company was warm. We were lucky. Philip helped us with that.
