Start your day trip with a pick-up from your hotel in Budapest. On the 1.5 to 2-hour drive from Hungary’s capital city, admire the view of the green landscapes around Lake Balaton and the basin’s basalt cones. If you are already staying in the Lake Balaton area, you will be picked up from your accommodation there.
First, visit a local winery and learn about small-scale wine producers. Try their wines before indulging in a gourmet lunch at one of the best restaurants in Hungary.
After a delicious meal, head to Tihany peninsula and visit the Benedictine Abbey, which was founded in 1055 on the top of a hill. From there, take in a stunning view over the blue waters of Lake Balaton and the surrounding nature.
Before heading back, stop at another winery, where you can enjoy an educational wine tasting. Learn about Olaszrizling and other local grape varieties that are crucial for the wine production in this area. After trying some more delicious wines, you will be brought back to your hotel.
