What people are saying about Tiber River
Though it was a bit tricky for us to organize our way to the Vatikan in the early morning we were richly compensated by a nearly empty St. Peters square and short lines for the security check. Our lovely guide Barbara got everything handled very smoothly - a special thanks to her! Of course we were not the only ones on top of the cupula at the time, but it was still reasonably possible to get a good and long look at the awakening city. Only the (of course indispensable) iron bars were interfering a bit with the view. Aftrewards we visited the cathedral's inside, which was as breathtaking as expected. Unfortunately the Piéta was for some reason veiled, but Barbara managed to get us a short glance. And there is so much more to enjoy in those halls. Finally: the crypt - to me the least interesting part of the tour, mostly since it made the impression of a train or metro station down there (but a person of faith might feel differently when seeing those buried there). All in all great tour!
Our guide Tiberio, who probably had entered Vatican city more often than the Pope :) made a perfect tour with us. Security control was easy and fast in the early morning. We climbed the dome, not the clompete 551 steps, but the remaining 320 as we used the elevater for the first ones. This was included and a good choice as the remaining steps were a good training in the morning. But the view was an excuse for every bead of sweat we produced :) Tiberio was very patient and we could enjoy the view over foggy Rome and take a lot of pictures. After the descent we visited the basilica and Tiberio told us a lot of interesting facts and stories about this wonderful building. In the end the netrance to the tombs was shown. Unfortunately our guide couldn't escort us there, as speaking is forbidden in this part of St. Peter. Of course we also had the chance to see some Swiss guards in their colorful uniforms :) A really good tour and absolutely recommendable!
We were met by a lovely lady called Joanne who was our guide. Great personality and passionate about her history. Just seeing St Peters basilica is amazing. I'm not a religious person but love great architecture, renaissance and baroque art ... the place ozzes it. Breath taking mosacics up close if you do take the steps up into the dome and the views from the top are amazing seeing Rome spread out all around. We went really early at 8.15am ( March 2019) which I would highly recommend as it soon gets very very busy.. i'm not one for crowds so by the time the tour ( approx 2.5hours) ended the ques to come in were incredably long. 10/10 for the tour and guide Joanne.
The guide Michaela was very informative and answered all questions. She also brought emotion to the tour which was great. She was also great with the children in our group and looked after ‘Rocky’ really well! Would definitely recommend the early tour (8.15am) as the square and church was empty - one good thing would be to get your outside photos done when quiet like that. When we left it was rammed! The tour went without a hitch with some great info along the way! I’ve been before to the Vatican but didn’t have the stories to go with it - definitely made a difference! Overall great tour and would recommend!
I was a bit worried about booking something like this on line, but everything went fantastically well. The very early start is recommended as the traditional massive queues hadn’t started to form. Our guide Francesca was friendly and very informative. Also, the size of the group wasn’t too big. Our tour was two and a half hours long and took in the basilica, dome and crypt. The tour was expensive but we all thought it was worth the money. I would definitely book with this company again. Great experience, especially if you are only in Rome for a short time.
