Full description
The first stop of the tour takes you to the Mount of Olives to admire panoramic views across the Holy city of Jerusalem. Look out beyond the Jewish cemetery on the mount’s slopes and towards the Temple Mount where the famous Second Temple once stood until its destruction in 70AD. Next, drive along the Kidron Valley to Mount Zion to visit the Tomb of King David. Within the tomb, find David’s cenotaph covered with a velvet cloth embroidered with symbols of lyre and a crown.

The tour continues onward to the Old City through the Zion Gate and into the Jewish Quarter. Here, marvel at a complex of four Sephardi synagogues which date back to the 17th and 18th centuries. The Yochanan ben Zakai Synagogue, Istanbuli Synagogue, Emtsai Synagogue and the EliahuHa'Navi Synagogue were found desecrated, burnt and in disrepair when the Israelis reclaimed Jerusalem following the Six Day War.

The next stop of the day is at the Byzantine Cardo, once the main thoroughfare of the city where you can see the findings of ongoing archaeological excavations and ancient Crusader stores used as modern shops. Through the Jewish Quarter, pass the excavated foundations of an ancient wall which stood 2,700 years ago during the reign of King Hezekiah. Go beneath the present day streets to discover the 2000-year-old Herodian mansions which house original mosaics and ritual baths providing a great insight into the lifestyle at that time.

Arrive at the Kotel next, the 2000-year-old Western Wall once part of the outer walls of the Second Temple. Enjoy the chance to place a prayer note between the stones of this ancient wall and feel immersed in this truly spectacular atmosphere. Finally, exit the Old City through the Dung Gate and explore the excavation site of the City of David which dates back 3000 years. Admire the ingenuity of the Canaanites and Hezekiah who constructed tunnels to bring a water supply to the people within the city walls.
