Full description
Explore the cities of Salerno and Paestrum on this full-day excursion. You’ll visit monuments and museums as you experience these distinctly different destinations.

Walk along the Salerno seafront and visit its cathedral, or wander through the streets of the pedestrian area. Afterwards, you’ll head to Paestum to enjoy lunch before visiting the archeological site.

In medieval times, Salerno was the world’s capital of medicine. The Monastery of the Benedictine monks offered the best instruction available. One of the most famous medical texts of the time was the Regimen Sanistas Salerni, written in Latin in Salerno and translated into most European languages.

To the east of Salerno, past the headlands of Pontecagnano, Battipaglia, and Eboli, is the ancient archeological site of Paestum. Founded by the Greeks in 60 B.C. the city was dedicated to Poseidon, the god of the sea.

Admire the temples and ruins of buildings constructed of fine yellow limestone, and surrounded by aromatic herbs, cypress, and oleander. The nearby museum contains many fine sculptures found at the site.
