Full description
The tour begins with pickup from your hotel and then travels to the first stop of the tour, Porto Cathedral. Marvel at the architecture on the city’s largest church, then walk over to the nearby D.Luis bridge to take magnificent photos of the city’s most famous landmark, the Ribeira. Along the tour, visit a selection of the city’s many churches, including the Church of Santa Clara, built in the mid-15th century and one of the best examples of Baroque architecture in Portugal. Then visit the stunning Church of St. Francis, an imposing Gothic building with gilded carvings that dazzle in the sunshine. Continue onto São Bento train station, considered to be one of the most beautiful stations in the world thanks to its typical Portuguese blue and white tiles that depict some of the country’s most historical milestones. Wander down to the river next and visit the Palácio da Bolsa with its magnificent Arab Hall, home to a magnificently grand staircase.  Arrive at the Ribeira next, the heart of Porto, made up of narrow and winding streets where colored houses contrast with the metallic gray iron of the D.Luís Bridge. Opt to take a cruise along the Duoro River and pass through the city’s six most iconic bridges, or enjoy a relaxing coffee and cake at one of the many cafes that line the waters’ edge. In the afternoon, head over to the other side of the river to one of the many port wineries. Enjoy a guided tour of a port cellar, learn about the rich flavor of the wine, and then enjoy a unique tasting session. Afterwards, take a ride in a cable car up to the Serra do Pilar and then go back downtown to The Clérigos Tower, one of the major symbols of Porto. The tower provides dazzling 360 degree views of the city, a worthy reward for climbing its 240 steps to reach the top. Descend from the tower and visit the quaint Lello bookshop, one of the most beautiful in the world, with its famous Art Nouveau staircase and magnificent stained-glass windows. The tour ends at Passeio das Virtudes, to admire the sunset against a magnificent backdrop.

We enjoyed this tour, and we LOVED seeing the beautiful City of Porto! But we have a few comments. Be prepared for a LOT of walking! We actually walked over 9 miles this day (15km), I’m not sure if it’s possible to avoid this because the City isn’t possible to see very well by car. I would suggest the tour to use an Uber or something on a few of the longer parts. Our touguide was VERY informed about the history and culture, and a really nice man. He should learn to speak more loudly and directly to his guests. Often we couldn’t hear him (only 2 of us), and had to ask him to repeat things. But for sure he’s a very nice and knowledgeable guide. We can recommend the tour overall.
