What people are saying about Sintra

Great small group tour, safe driving, informative and stress-free

Two of us went on this tour and found it excellent - there were only 7 in our party, and would only have been room for one more. We liked that our guide chatted en route about places we passed and Portuguese history & culture, and then at stops pointed out things we might like to do but left us free to pursue them ourselves. It meant we had an informative day, with all the transport taken care of, but didn’t feel like we were being herded around looking at things we weren’t so interested in. For instance, we particularly enjoyed visiting the Quinta da Regaleira gardens which we wouldn’t have thought about doing without our guide, whereas others on the tour spent more time in Sintra town. Our main reason for joining the tour was to see Pena Palace and here our guide came in with us to explain the history and then gave us enough time to look around the inside and the exterior walls as we chose. Timings were approx 1 hr in Cascais; 30min Cabo da Roca; 2hrs Sintra; 1hr30min at Pena Palace

Brilliant day out with lovely John as our guide and driver

Brilliant day out with lovely Joao (John) as our guide and driver. We were collected from our hotel which was very convenient - no trekking to a communal pick-up point as sometimes happens. It was a small group, only 7 of us so we were in a mini-bus, which was great. John was very friendly and knowledgeable and made the trip very interesting and enjoyable. We visited Cascais with time to walk around and sample the coffee and cakes from one of the local patisseries - delicious. Then a lovely drive on to Cabo da Roca to see the most westerly point of mainland Europe, before continuing to Sintra for a lunch stop, and then on to the Pena palace with its amazing views of the surrounding countryside and time to visit inside. We were then driven back into Lisbon and dropped back at our hotel - a thoroughly enjoyable day! Can definitely recommend this trip.

It was a very well organized trip and very informative!

Loved this trip! Our guide Tanja was super nice and the tour was perfectly organized. Tanja shared lots of interesting information about Sintra and the other places we stopped by. It was not a rush at all, but just the right amount of time at each place. I could definitely not have visited all these places in one day by myself without having been stressed about the whole traveling between the places. The tour was very enjoyable and I can only recommend it if you don't want to worry about organizing the trip by yourself. This will take you to Sintra (palace, museum, a bit of the park and the village), Cabo da roca, a couple small seaside towns along the way and finally Cascais!

Great guide, not so ideal transportation

We were supposed to have a minivan for our tour of sites in and around Sintra. Instead we got a big 4x4. It meant we were 3 on a side and one in front. It was difficult to see out the sides and to hear our guide. Alex was our guide and he was really excellent. He has a degree in history so he gave us really good background on what we were seeing and help us to contextualize it within the larger scope of Portuguese history. He also made great suggestions on local specialties to taste. He was really engaging and fun to be with.

Nice guide, spectacular views, entertainment

Really recommend this trip, fun guide Daniel who knows his stuff, beautiful views from the palace and the cliffs. The best? We could make our own decisions, so it became a very personal, unique and spontanious trip, no hurry or stress. Perfect amount of free time and enough information of the history of lisbon without going to much into detail, which you won't remember anyway. ;)
