Seteais Palace

This hotel is located within a historic palace, which dates back to the 18th century. This spot offers amazing views across the Moorish Castle and Pena Palace from the hillside.

Castle of the Moors

Castle of the Moors

This medieval castle is one of the reasons this beautiful region is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Peaceful year-round, this is a good place to get away from the busy town.

Quinta da Regaleira

Quinta da Regaleira

Like something from a Tim Burton movie, this estate is breathtakingly ornate. Don't miss the initiation well or the aquarium for a really special attraction.

Pena Palace

Pena Palace

This colorful site looks most impressive on a sunny day, when its yellow, pink, and terracotta facade is particularly vibrant. An adult ticket for the palace and park is €14.

Monserrate Palace

Monserrate Palace

An exotic villa with tropical gardens that are worth walking around, even in the sun and heat. The buggy tour offers a more sedate way to see the site without the legwork.

Sintra Mountains

Sintra Mountains

Known locally as the Serra de Sintra, this 10-mile range is popular with rock climbers, as the western face is bathed in evening light. Also suitable for walkers and explorers.

Praia da Adraga

Praia da Adraga

This beautiful beach is often voted one of the best in Portugal, and is many locals' choice over closer strips. A 7.5-mile car journey away from town, it's a favorite with surfers.

Planning Your Sintra Visit

When to go?

Sintra offers good weather year-round, but the best times to visit are spring and fall, when you can avoid the crowds and extreme temperatures of the summer season.

How long do I need?

A few days in Sintra is enough to see the sites, then add as many days as you want to relax on the beach.

Lisbon to Sintra

It's very easy to get to Sintra as part of a longer trip to Lisbon. The trains are quick, regular, and cheap. The area offers a historic, quiet alternative to Lisbon's bustling center, and the beaches are prettier and calmer. You can also rent a car to get there for relatively cheap--book online for the best deals.

  • Best time to visit
Sintra tends to stay cooler than Lisbon because of the elevation and the abundant shade provided from the lush landscape -- so even summer isn't unbearable. Weekdays are better than weekends to visit the sights and avoid the traffic congestion through the narrow and steep streets.

What people are saying about Sintra

Andre was a delight to tour with. He really made us all feel super comfortable on the trip and gave explanations and guided tours of all the places (especially those that are described as being optional on the tour, like the Quinta da Regaleira and Pena Palace). He also made extra stops along the way to show us places that weren’t even part of the itinerary. I can only highly recommend this trip - you get so much for how much you pay, especially in comparison with the other tours offered. Bear in mind that with all the bonuses, the tour takes more than 8 hours, but that just demonstrates how dedicated and passionate Andre is about making sure you experience as much as you can in one day. He is also very flexible and adapts to what you want to see or need on the tour. אנדרה היה תענוג לסיור איתו. בהחלט ממליץ לכולם לבחור את הסיור הזה כפי שאתה זוכה לראות את כל הנקודות החשובות ביום אחד בלבד. בסך הכל חוויה נפלאה.

This was a great tour and really good to give you a glimpse of places outside of Lisbon. It was worth the early start to see Sintra before it gets too busy. Our guide, Reneta was very knowledgeable and friendly and was really easy-going. We could ask questions and chat as well as have the formal tour. It was well paced and enough time was given in each of the places visited although a little more time in Cascais may have been nice.

Lovely park with lots of different plant species. Monserrate Palace is absolutely beautiful and great for some romantic photos . I only wish that the digital map was more easily available, so the website does need some refining. At the moment you can only find the map, either by searching on the site, or by going to the “Professionals” area and then selecting “Press”.

The process was very quick and efficient that e-ticket was issued after purchase. It is recommended to purchase in advance to avoid line ups. The experience was seamless and amazing but be prepared to do lots of walking if you want to explore the whole entire park and palace. Definitely a thumbs up!

The tickets can be directly used at the entrance and it is very convenient. As it was a Monday of October, there was no one but it was anyway good to arrive with the tickets. The Palace in nice and interesting to learn about the habits and daily life of our ancestors
