Full description
Traveling is knowing the different traditional flavors of an area. The goal of the food tour is to let you know the Sienese dishes, both savory and sweet. After meeting your tour guide who will explain in rich detail the history and curiosity of every dish, head to the first stop.

Enjoy a starter of ciaccino, the typical Sienese bread with a selection of salami and local cheeses. The second stop will focus on truffles, the precious and well-known tuber in a shop located in the magnificent setting of Piazza del Campo.

After finishing the starter, it's time for the entree in a typical tavern. Here, according to the seasons, you can taste typical dishes like panzanella (a chopped salad), pici alle briciole (handmade spaghetti with breadcrumbs) or all’aglione (with local garlic), and pappa al pomodoro (local dish with bread and tomatos).

At this point, you’ll be ready to start with Sienese goodies: first you will appreciate the famous Kiss of Siena, the Bacio di Siena, a delicious nougat covered with chocolate. Or, according to season, taste a variety of flavours of ice cream. Then, taste more typical sweets such as cantucci, panforte, and ricciarelli. With a good glass of Vin Santo, finish the food tour and say your fond goodbyes to group and guide.

If you would like to explore Siena further, opt to include a 1.5 or 2-hour walking tour before your food experience. Start your monolingual walking tour at 10:30 AM in the morning and discover the art, culture, and traditions of Siena. Visit and make at some of the most beautiful UNESCO sites in the city including the Piazza del Campo and Palazzo Pubblico. The 2-hour version includes a 30-minute guided visit inside the Duomo. Then, start the food tour at 12:45 PM.

We were fortunate to have just four in our group, plus Sandra our guide. Sandra gave us a good tour with tastings of Sienese specialities, including among others a truffle store, local restaurant for pasta and dessert. She included a little history and cooking tips along the way, plus kept to the time allotted.

Our guide Virginia was lovely - Siennese and loves her city. Easy walk. Lovely views all along the way. Enjoyed sampling the bread, pasta , truffles, sweets and gelato ! Casual and slow pace. Only 4 of us in group. Virginia was very helpful answering our questions. A great introduction to life in Siena
