Full description
Depart Siem Reap for this full-day tour of the Cambodian countryside surrounding the city, transfering to Kompong Khleang, a community-owned floating village that has kept its authenticity. Cycle along the red soil roads through some splendid villages, and stop by the fish market to watch and take part in the Khmer fish trade. After a well-deserved drink, journey to one of the most impressive floating villages in Cambodia. Board a boat to discover the village in the flooded forest. For lunch, you will go to a stilt house to share typical Khmer food with the locals. Get back aboard your boat to cruise to a pagoda, located on an island. Walk by the school for monks, observing their day-to-day routine. Next, you will visit a Vietnamese floating village built on objects that can float on Tonlé Sap. The village moves along the river, and sometimes up to the lake, according to the season. Marvel at the floating school, hospital, and local shops. Return to the bus for the drive back to Siem Reap, passing rural villages en route. Stop at one of them to interact with the villagers and, if you are lucky, see some of the water-bird species that pick at the rice paddies.

Our guide Chili was an excellent host. He was affable, positive and knowledgeable. His personal story, which he shared at the outset, was a reminder that Cambodia is more than a tourist destination. My one reservation is that unless you understand that he may guide you into spending a couple of bucks on schools supplies at the market and then drop by a local elementary school, you may feel uncomfortable interrupting class.

The tour was a good option because it felt like visiting places not crowded with tourists. We were 2 couples so we had the opportunity to ask our guide ( Chili/Chree) all we were interested in. The guide was very insightful and took in consideration all our needs. We really felt like seeing how Cambodians live.

Outstanding tour! As indicated, we were picked up at our hotel on time in a clean and tidy vehicle by a welcoming driver and guide. We arrived at the countryside to retrieve our local Cambodia bikes. We rode through the quaint village stopping at a local house (it was the guides’ home so we met his family) as well as the village school and market. We chatted with the children and toured the school. Awesome experience! Then we were off to an amazing lunch in a local house on stilts on the river. Delicious! Finally we went by boat to see the floating villages. It was educational, enlightening and eye opening all at the same time. It was not like anything I have ever seen before. This tour should not to be missed if you are in Siem Reap.
