Full description
A fascinating opportunity to visit the picturesque area of Berchtesgaden in the neighbouring German province of Bavaria. Leaving Salzburg passing by Hellbrunn we cross the German border. Driving past the Salt mines our first stop will be at the King’s Lake – Königssee, known as ‘The prettiest lake in Germany’ and part of the Berchtesgaden National Park. Enjoy this short break to marvel at the scenery, the Bavarian mountains towering above you and proving a magnificent backdrop to the lake. We then drive to the town of Berchtesgaden, nestled in the foothills of the surrounding mountains. Enjoy your free time strolling around the centre, historical buildings, churches and perhaps a local speciality or two! Returning back to the centre of Salzburg in the late afternoon.

Berchtesgaden and Konigssee were both great places. However, the time given to us was very limited. We were included in a group going to the Salt Mines so while they were there, the shuttle took us to Konigssee. Once there, most of the shops are closed. And we only had arround 50minutes to wander around so we weren't able to ride a boat which I think shluld be the highlight of this said tour. After that, we want back to the shuttle then picked up those in the Salt Mines and we went to Berchtesgaden. Also, we had very limited time there. Only about an hour to explore the Berchtesgaden Advent Market.

This was an easy half day, starting in the afternoon, and including some iconic locations at Berchtesgaden and Konigssee. The opportunity to have a meal in Berchtesgaden was a nice way to finish the tour. The coach was well appointed, the driver was attentive, and our guide filled the tourist with heaps of interesting information and anecdotes.

Would have been better solo

I would not recommend this tour. First, the pictured meet-up point is incorrect. We asked the man staffed at info booth where our group was and he instructed us to walk to the next block. If we had not asked, we would have missed the tour! Then, our tour was lumped in with another and tours by different names like “Bavarian Mountains” were apparently the same as ours - “Konigssee and Berchtesgaden.” The guide was not very helpful in telling us where to stand and/or that the tour didn’t actually start until 15 minutes after the listed start time so we thought we may have missed it since nobody else had the same tickets as us. Finally, the tour guide tore my print out of the ticket after I told him that the reverse had important train tickets. We had inadequate time to explore the lake - it’s just a view of the VERY touristy portion - and the stop in Berchtesgaden felt rushed and touristy. Our guide’s commentary was interesting along the bus ride, but that was about it. Also,
