Top 5 things to see on a Rome bus tour

From hop on hop off bus tours around the Eternal City, to small coach excursions, to the more far-flung sights, here are some of the best things you can do on a bus tour around Rome.

Colosseum

Colosseum

Marvel at Rome's famous Colosseum as well as other nearby attractions. While in the area, your bus will also pass the Roman Forum and the Arch of Constantine!

Appian Way

Appian Way

This historically strategic road – along which Spartacus' army was crucified – dates back to 312 BC. Bus tours can help discover ancient aqueducts and the Tomb of Cecilia Metella.

St. Peter's Basilica

St. Peter's Basilica

The largest church in the world is a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture. Supposedly, it was built over the burial place of St. Peter, the apostle and first Pope of Rome.

Catacombs of Rome

Catacombs of Rome

Rome has no less than 40 mass tombs buried beneath its suburbs. The best way to visit the Catacombs is as part of a bus tour that includes stops for exploring!

Piazza Venezia

Piazza Venezia

The name of this huge piazza derives from the square's Venetian Palace. However, it'll be the National Monument to Victor Emmanuel II that catches your eye!

Planning Your Visit

What time of day to go?

If you plan on booking a bus tour that allows stops to alight and explore – whether within the city or outside of its limits – it's best to leave as early as possible to avoid crowds and traffic. However, if you're merely after great views from your window seat, why not tour the city by night, when many of its monuments will be spectacularly lit?

How much does it cost?

Prices for Rome bus tour tickets start at €10 for a basic hop-on hop-off package, to over €100 for small-group tours that include attraction tickets and/or meals.

What people are saying about Rome

Excellent driver with great local knowledge!

Our driver and guide was waiting for us as planned. A lovely comfortable car. He was very knowledgeable about his Rome and even managed a stop at his local cafe for us. We saw everything we had requested and got to our ship with ease. A big plus was that he had the proper permissions and passes to get us right into the embarkation terminal (unlike others whose drivers could only drop them outside at the windy shuttle stop). Highly recommended and with thanks.

Wonderful young man, dressed impeccable and drove like a dream

Same as above ... Giovanni was a very polite and personable young man. He assisted with all of our luggage, arrived promptly and drove expertly. I would definitely use him and this company again.

Fast. Affordable. Efficient with free WiFi onboard.

The shuttle bus area was very easy to find and there are three stops available from Fiumicino Airport; Circonvallazione Aurelia, Vatican City and Rome Termini Station. We were able to get off at a stop that close enough to walk to our Airbnb which was closer to the Vatican City than Rome City Center. Having access to their free WiFi onboard was extremely helpful for pulling up walking directions from our bus stop to our Airbnb.

It was a very pleasant day. All the staff were great.

Great and peaceful day. Staff were attentive to all. Group as well were welcoming and open to each other.

Very easy and excellent service on the dot timing.

Did not expect such excellent service. Attendants at the Airport were amazing, just gave them the voucher and gave me tickets for return as well. Definitely recommendable. Buses are 5 star very comfortable. Far cheaper than taxis.
