Full description
You will start your day from Reykjavik, from where you will travel to your first stop at the Lava Centre. There you will find seven monitors directly connected to all earthquake information over the last 48 hours. You can also see how many volcanoes are in Iceland, including how many are active. From there you will stop at the gorgeous Skógafoss Waterfall before you head to Vik. Skógafoss, another famous Icelandic waterfall, is the starting point of the Fimmvörðuháls Walk over to Þórsmörk. You will then have free time for lunch in Vík from approximately from 11:00AM-12:30PM, following which you will climb into a Super Jeep for an exhilarating ride through the local landscape. Once at the glacier area, your expert glacier guide will provide you with a full safety briefing. You’ll then be fitted out with some loan equipment, including a helmet, headlamp, and crampons. From there it will be a fun 5 to 10-minute hike across the glacier to the ice cave. Once inside you’ll have plenty of time to explore the cave, admire the amazing tones and wild shapes, and learning all about these incredible structures. Your local guide will explain how the ice caves are constantly changing, including how the cave you explore this season may never exist again, making this truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. After a full 45 to 60 minutes of exploration, you’ll hike back to the Super Jeep and take another exciting ride back to Vik. Following your visit to the Katla Volcano Ice Cave you will have plenty of free time to explore Vik independently from 3:30PM-7:00PM. Traveling to the black sand beach and seeing the Reynisdrangar rock formations and columnar basalt are highly recommended. You can then choose to relax in the local swimming pool, go horseback riding, go hiking, or visit the Icelandic lava show at 5:00PM. On your way back you will stop at Seljalandsfoss, which is part of the Seljandsá River and originates from the Eyjafjallajökull Glacier.

The part relating to the 5-star ice cave, and also the three stops of the tour are not bad unfortunately you have to organize yourself to visit the areas near vik that are really worth it and in winter without a means of transport it is impossible . We paid an extra fee thanks to the local agency.

The tour guide is well experienced and knowledgeable, give out the info in the entertaining way, no dead air at all. On the way to ice cave the ride was rough and I have motion sickness, but totally got distracted by his sense of humour. 2 thumbs up.
