Highlights
  • Seek out the best spots for viewing the Northern Lights outside Reykjavik
  • Travel in a small group in a comfortable minibus
  • Enjoy a cup of hot chocolate with ginger biscuits
Full description
Far from the city lights, the dark Icelandic night becomes the backdrop for the Aurora Borealis. Marvel at the lights dancing in the sky, where the viewing is best.

The Northern Lights appear most frequently from late autumn to early spring, with the weather also a factor. The drive will take in the best viewing spots available.

There are no guarantees on the quality of the lights seen on this 3-hour tour. Some weeks, visitors are treated to fantastic displays repeated several times during the evening.

At other times, densely falling snow means that the lights aren’t visible. A longer stay in Iceland will certainly improve the odds for taking in this magnificent natural phenomenon.

We did a lot of traveling - driver was in constant contact with other teams trying to find the elusive lights. It was a windy night and the cloud cover was constantly shifting. After 2 hours we did eventually find a spot and saw the lights. If you are using a camera and tripod, get as ready as you can beforehand cause it is cold and dark outside. We were served hot chocolate and cookies during the stop, very welcome in the cold. I'd read other reviews about drivers helping cell phone users with their photography, and even taking pictures of them with the lights, but our driver offered no photo assistance, although he did give us lots of local info/history. Definitely pleased with my choice of the smaller bus, lights would probably have disappeared by the time a large coach could disembark.

We did the northern lights tour two weeks ago. We were well looked after. We were on a comfortable bus that took us to three places. Our guide Olafsonn did his absolute best to make sure that we could see the lights at its best and in doing so we stayed out 45 minutes longer. We were spoilt with cookies and hot chocolate and would definitely recommend this tour group.

The trip was great fun and the guide tried many different areas... we really were chasing the lights! Slightly disappointing as we only saw a slight green glow, but it is pot luck seeing the northern lights and just seems they didn’t want to come out. Only 4 stars awarded as no biscuits or hot drinks were provided, as advertised!
