What people are saying about Reykjavik
The Bryggjan Brugghús is a great venue, and our hostess Candy was amazing. She led us through the tasting, then spent a good amount of time just sitting and chatting with us about Icelandic history, culture, and her personal stories/experiences/opinions. The bar has an assortment of great tasting beers that are brewed in-house. If you don't get this deal, the bar does a tour and tasting every day - that being said, you won't get the delicious paired food. Keep in mind a few things: this is tapas being served, so you might need to snack before or after the "tour". You can also order more food at the restaurant. You can also order more beer (note that beer is expensive in Iceland, and the price increases by alcohol content. Make use of "Happy Hour"). Highly recommend this deal.
What an amazing event tonight. As much as I love seeing the wonders of the world and learning about the history and culture of others . . . it's about the people and having real & personal experiences with other adventurous travelers. Tonight's "tour" was billed as a 6 beer + 6 Icelandic foods sampling. All beers were brewed in this microbrewery . . . a new industry growing in Iceland. When engaging in food & drink wherever you're from, conversation and friendships occur. Our group had 6 travelers (3 solo women and 3 guys who were together) enjoying storytelling and laughter throughout our meal. It was truly a highlight if what will go down as a very memorable vacation for me!
Great hospitality- our host was really informative about all things Icelandic. Beers were great and kept coming all night in generous pitchers - finely paired with the different tapas. Food was amazing.. my only tiny criticism is that the beer outweighed the food in terms of quantity... and we left the evening to go in search of a slap up meal to balance the amount of beer on offer... this could easily be rectified by making one of the tapas dishes a bit more substantial.. but that said it was excellent value for money -all things considered in Iceland.. a good way to meet some fellow travellers too and exchange holiday tips.
Loved it. I came alone. And our guide Dora managed to get everybody involved. Our Bartender Candy had so much knowledge about beer and fitting food. Never thought you can fit beer so much to food. And how good iclandic beer is. (in special if you know how young their own brewing culture is) go there. Enjoy a great guide. A wonderful bartender. Super Beer and food. Just as they advertise. Food is a small portion. Eat something before.
There were six of us that met up with Ester for a great tour of some lovely restaurants in Reykjavik. Ester was a perfect host telling us about the origins of the food and other interesting facts about life in Iceland. The walk is not far as it concentrates around the old part of Reykjavik and you are very full afterwards.
