What people are saying about Reims
We booked this at the last minute due to being delayed in France for a day. We lucked out ending up in a small group (just 4 of us) and a fantastic guide, Susanne. The tour of the Taittinger cellars was incredible - so interesting, fascinating detail about the history of the caves and their relevance to the history of Reims, as well as about the production of champagne, the Taittinger house and history. The mini tour of Reims was a great intro to the city as well, and our guide was able to bring it to life for us. Her knowledge of both viticulture, champagne, Reims and the region was excellent - when we asked questions we were often given amazing little snippets of history or local culture which made the trip feel so special. We then visited a very small local house: the contrast was stunning and really brought home to us just how much hard work and time goes into any bottle of champagne. We loved our tasting in the small house; it was so relaxed and personal. Highly recommended.
John-Phillipe was a terrific guide. He was very knowledgeable, funny, and enthusiastic - a complete pleasure to spend the day with. He escorted us through the various stops on our Champagne tour steadily providing interesting insights. The long day flew by. The Rouen Cathedral stop was wonderful, and having an hour to wander a bit and choose our own lunch spot was great. Going first to a small vintner (Pierre Domi) then to Moet-Chandon worked very well. I wondered if it would be redundant but instead the two built on each other nicely and provided different information and insights into the champagne making process. Next trip to Paris I will do as many tours with John-Phillipe as I can.
Our Segway tour was fantastic and I would highly recommend it! Charlotte was a lovely guide who made sure we were comfortable on the Segways before taking us on a wonderful tour. She is friendly, knowledgeable, and very proud of her city. It was a perfect way to see the highlights while experiencing a fun activity. I was surprised at how much ground we covered, and at how quickly we became used to the Segways. To anyone who is wondering whether this may be cheesy, or if you might not get the hang of the Segway — go for it! I had doubts as well but am so glad we decided to go for it. A highlight of our time in Reims for sure! Thank you to Charlotte for a wonderful experience!
There are many different tasting champagnes and not all of them will suit your palette. I now have a certificate ...a Champagne Knowledge Certificate. A free car park in the middle of Reims, one minute from the centre. A wonderful setting with hanging champagne bottles, comfortable tasting area and a more formal classroom area. Our knowledgeable teacher was honestly superb! This is a class I would highly recomend and is superb value for money. Undertake this class before you go tasting on your champagne tour of the small scale, local producers of champagne and find the champagne that you like.
Vincent was a very knowledgable guide who covered much more than just champagne production. The contrast between the big winery and the small family run wineries was very interesting. My only criticism is that I should have been warned of all the steps. I have bad knees and would have brought my stick with me if I had known.
