Full description
Starting from the convenient meeting point in Piazza San Francesco, journey through the streets of the city center with your bilingual guide to experience three incredible UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the Battistero Neoniano, the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, and the Basilica of San Vitale.

Visit the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, built halfway through the 5th century by Galla Placidia during the last years of the Western Roman Empire. This small Latin cross mausoleum seems externally very simple, however, inside there is a rich decoration of mosaics to be found. The countless stars of the dome have touched the imagination and sensibility of visitors and leading figures alike. The poet Dante Alighieri, for example, was moved to write some of the Divine Comedy verses, widely considered to be one of the greatest works of world literature.

The last stop will be at the Basilica of San Vitale, one of the most important monuments of Paleochristian art in Italy. With a clear eastern influence, the monument was built in the 5th century and shows an octagonal diagram with a big decorated dome on top. When you enter in the basilica, your eyes will be drawn up to the mosaic decorations of the apse and the extraordinary representation of the Byzantine imperial couple, Justinian and Theodora, and their procession.
