  • View Lord of the Rings filming locations

Full description
Departing from Queenstown, head to historic Arrowtown. Drive past the Chinese Village, the old Goal and the lookout as well as several unmissable photo locations. Once in the Main Street of Arrowtown, you will have one hour of free time to explore the town at your own pace. Enjoy a 10% discount on entrance fees to Lakes District Museum and Art Gallery. Afterward, visit a real local honey farm to see bees in an observation hive and learn about the different types of honey followed by tastings of Manuka, Rata, and Clover honey.

Later, head to the world's first commercial bungy operation opened at the Kawarau bridge in 1988. Walk along this historic bridge and look down at the excited throngs of bungy jumpers, and spot the location where The Gates of Argonath stood in The Lord of the Rings movie.

Traveling into the Gibbston Valley, gaze upon the vineyards in a rugged setting that has lent itself to the production of award-winning Pinot Noir wine. Stop at a local cheesery for tastings before heading to the stunning Lake Hayes, aka The Mirror Lake, for scenic photos of the surrounding mountains. On the way back to Queenstown, make a stop at one of New Zealand's most beautiful viewing platforms for breathtaking views of Queenstown and Lake Wakatipu.
