Full description
Just an hour’s drive from Prague is Terezín, an 18th century Austrian fortress with a terrible 20th century past. The former garrison became a refugee center for Czechs fleeing Hitler’s annexation of the Sudentenland.

When the rest of the country fell into Nazi hands the garrison became a Gestapo prison, a Jewish ghetto, and then a deportation point with trains heading directly to Auschwitz.

The story of Terezín is a mix of death and life – the tragedy of the Holocaust in contrast with the prisoners’ secret celebrations of culture, politics and faith.

Today Terezín is a sleepy country town that seems so unlikely to have been one of the key centers of the Nazi’s Final Solution. Your guide, however, is expert in telling the stories behind the statistics and in bringing the past back to life.

See the memorials and the sometimes hidden traces of the former ghetto on this unforgettable trip.

This tour was really interesting as it covered so many different aspects of the Holocaust and I came away feeling so much more educated than If we had gone without a guide. Tijo was our guide and he was so full of knowledge and if you had any questions he would be able to answer them not missing any detail. Thoroughly recommend!

A full day full of interest. I would have liked more time in the museums but accept you can’t do everything and that it was sensible to spend the time on site. The art produced by the captives was very impressive, the efforts of very brave people to try to preserve some kind of normality in a hellish environment.

Absolutely incredible experience. I did this a year ago and completely forgot to even write a review. Our tour guide was so knowledgeable, sadly forgot his name but still follow him on Instagram now. Unforgettable!
