This was, for me, the perfect tour and Hugo the best guide ever. We got an in-depth perspective of this side of the island, complete with a bit of geological history and stories about the Azores and its people and history from this native Azorean who cares deeply about his home and its environment. The locations we visited were breathtaking and the food cooked in the Furnas volcanic steam was among the best I had while in the Azores. Most importantly, Pure Azores always keeps the groups small, which gives the group some flexibity. If you dislike huge bus tours that just give you enough time to run out and snap a selfie, this one's for you! I will certainly do more tours with Pure Azores the next time I visit and I will recommend it to my family and friends.
Hugo was the perfect guide-informative, passionate and aware of all his passengers, even though we were only four. The lunch cooked in one of the fumaroles was excellent with a good mix of meats and vegetables. Wash it dawn with a good drop of Portuguese red wine. ( this was included in the price) Various side stops to buy local sweet bread and other sweet treats added to experiencing the island. The tour had a bit of everything as well as voiding Lake Furnas and several smoking geysers -a tea plantation, an unsuccessful but windy look for whales, a waterfall and water wheels. Great day out at a good price.
A great day. Saw many things with great information, legends and stories of the local guide (john) along the way. During the trip you get to visit many highlights of the island and there is more than enough time to take some pictures. The trip was well over 8 hours and we went with a small van. Which makes it nice because you can get to know the other people on the tour as well and share some experiences about the island. During driving John will tell many stories and interesting facts! Ps. Wines during lunch were very nice too, local sparkling vino! ;)
The guide is local, so we had a great introduction of history, way of life there in Sao Miguel. Overall good experience, and especially lunch is A LOT and local as well, though crowded. It seemed every tour would stop by there to offer lunch. Not so punctual, they picked me after 30 min later. Also, we missed the main part that our group would like to go, and we didn't go back there after lunch due to weather conditions. Was a pity. Scenery was stunning overall, we stopped by many places, a good quick view of Sao Miguel west part!
We had a great time with Jose on this drive along the rim of the crater. He stopped wherever and whenever we wanted, as long as it was safe to do so. We had 6 in the vehicle, which was a little tight, but we didn't mind since we all took turns moving from seat to seat after stops. That way we all had a chance to ride shotgun, and no one was stuck in the very back the whole time.
