Was picked up from hotel on time. Proceeded to Peterhoff. Guide explained history of building on the way including political buildings . Very promptly entered Peterhoff . Dacha explained and informed all aspects of the place, on garden, fountains , waterfront and all interiors - history of paintings . Plenty of time to browse around the gardens, Parks and take pictures. On return drive to st Petersburg , more was explained , By these time we were fully brain charged . Had an Enjoyable trip to Peterhoff, though the drive was about 40 minutes . Beware of rains and take an umbrella.
Really enjoyable day trip from St Petersburg. There were only three of us plus the guide on this trip, which made getting around so much easier than larger groups. The guide picks you up from your hotel, and private transport to the palace, about an hour away. Once inside the knowledge of our guide was great. Our only problems were larger groups holding us up as we walked around the palace. The gardens are as extensive with all the gravity fed fountains. A great insight into how Royalty lived, and how they were influenced by many other cultures around Europe.
Our lovely tour guide met us under the Alexander column and we took an airconditioned bus out to Peterhof. The gardens were beautiful, and we walked around the fountains and enjoyed the views. Our guide told us about the history of the palace and gardens. When it was time to go into the palace it was very busy and crowded. The museum employees herded us through, which was annoying. However the palace is beautiful and still well worth seeing.
We enjoyed a special day at Peterhof with our guide Alexander who is very knowledgeable on art and Russian history. Alexander was very attentive even on the trip to and from Peterhof giving historical explanations of area and sites along the way. She also went beyond the call of duty taking us to our destination after the tour as many roads were closed due to the Victory Parade. Would highly recommend Alexandra.
The tour was good, the guide she was perfect. BUT the company that sold it is tricking. I was under the impression that I am booking a privet tour for two and on the way to Peterhof I have found out that we are collecting one more couple. the tour description (probably intentionally ) does not state clearly that it can be shared tour for 2 to 18 people.
