Full description
Paddle and pedal to your heart's delight on this half-day kayaking followed by half-day mountain biking tour. Take a gentle cruise on your kayak to Split Apple Rock, and discover the cycle trails suitable for all grade levels in Kaiteriteri Mountain Bike Park.

Begin your tour with pickup from the meeting point in Nelson at 7 AM and transfer to the golden sands of Kaiteriteri Beach. Start the kayaking part of your day with a safety briefing and full kayaking instructions at 8:30 AM, then set out over the water in your kayak.

Explore all the nooks and crannies in the relatively small area between Kaiteriteri to the south and Split Apple Rock to the north, an ideal spot for kayaking first-timers. Depending on the daily tides, reach Split Apple Rock at around 11 AM and enjoy a break for swimming, relaxing, or strolling along the beach.

After your break, set off for Ngaio Island on the homeward journey and return to Kaiteriteri at 11:45 AM. Please note that as the tides change every day, the timings and itinerary of this part of the tour can change a little too. Once back on land, take a 45-minute break for lunch.

With your energy replenished, check in to the mountain biking part of your tour at around 12:30 PM. Get your bike, then discover the 180 hectares of lush native bush in the Kaiteriteri Mountain Bike Park. Cycle round over 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) of mountain bike trails that cater to all ability levels, from the family-friendly to intermediate and advanced-grade riding.

Enjoy your time pedaling around the well-signposted park, which is easily self-guided, and navigate a mixture of smoothly crafted hand-built and digger trails. Once your paddling and pedaling adventures are done, there will still be plenty of time for a swim on the beach and a cold drink before beginning your return journey to Nelson at 5 PM.
