What people are saying about Naples
I would definitely recommend the tour to people interested in experiencing a carefree excursion while visiting a historic place. Our pick-up meeting point was just down the street from our accommodation, so there was no stress of figuring out how to get there in the morning. Elisa, our guide to Pompeii, was very professional, multilingual and seemed to have a lot of experience. After Pompeii we had lunch at the cafeteria, where we could chose between 3 dishes (pasta, pizza or lasagna), which was perfectly fine, especially because u wouldn’t want to have a heavy three course meal before walking up the path to Mt. Vesuvius in Italy’s August heat. Last but not least I’d like to mention our bus driver Guiseppe who showed perfect driving skills maneuvering the bus up the winding streets to Mt. Vesuvius. Of course one should be aware that the path up Mt. V. itself is less a hiking experience than a walk up to the crater, leaving u nevertheless with beautiful& impressive views over Naples.
I'll start with the Great! Our Pompeii guide, Elisa, was absolutely the best! Super informative and told great stories about the city and brought it to life throughout the tour. Could not have asked for a better Pompeii experience. She earned 5+ stars every bit. ... now to the other ... Mt. Vesuvius experience was a 2 star. Our guide, I forgot her name, was just bad - it wasn't even clear she was a guide until she started talking about halfway through the trip to Vesuvius - then she made bad jokes about the driver. At the mountain, she just said "bye, see you when you get back" from hiking up and taking our own tour with guides that are at the mountain itself. It was such a short amount of time that by the time you actually did the full hike, you had to almost run down to get back on time. Tip: the hike up Vesuvius is not very fun, loose gravel is tough to climb and then also rough on your knees and ankles coming down, very unsteady footing.
This was a last minute idea for us and we managed to get a tour booked for the following day. The instructions were clear on the email, although it said we would be contacted within 24 hours of our booking to confirm the pick up location, and in fact we had to call their office to confirm the pick up location and time. This was an easy process though, with multi-lingual phone agents available. The trip itself was very well organised from start to finish, and the tour guide was brilliant. She was very funny and very informative. Pompeii was great, and our tour guide was very knowledgeable. Mount Vesuvius was equally as great, although when we got to the crater, the rain clouds came over which spoilt the view! Overall, a fantastic day out which was organised brilliantly. Would definitely recommend this trip to anyone.
The bus was colecting people from hotels for a while and only arrived to Pompei at around 11 am, where an English speaking guide showed us the hotspots of the archeologic site, for about 2 hours. We then had a reasonable lunch (pizza, lasagna or tomato spagetti) at a restaurant nearby. The climb to Mt Vesuvius started at 3 pm, when it was 35 degrees Celsius; although it’s only 200 mts, it was really difficult. Therefore, my only suggestion would be to start collecting people one hour before, at 08.30, then proceed to Mt Vesuvius and Pompeii after lunch.
The whole tour was very good organized with the bus and the guide on the bus.....on site we had some other guide who gave us lots of information about Pompei…..We got some drinks before and after the guiding tour in Pompei…. Lunch was included and very good with wine and even a tasteful dessert... Driver of bus was very experienced and brought us safely towards Napels.... The city of Naples is not so special in my opinion.....we saw lots of things with the open hop and off bus, but not so special.....Never the less Pompei was great…..
