An excellent introduction and overview for a first-time or returning visitor. Inspiration for further discoveries and valuable tips beyond your average guide(book) or website. Expert knowledge combined with anecdotal local insight, presented in a digestible and engaging manner in impeccable English. The tour makes you reflect upon and appreciate Berlin's defining historical moments and their link with architecture, urban planning and contemporary culture. An ideal balance between serious content and more light-hearted and friendly dialogue with a qualified professional. The personal viewpoints and interpretation provided food for thought. We particularly appreciated the effort to make the tour enjoyable even for children (aged 9-12) who remained engaged throughout and set up with appropriate bikes. When your bike tour is organised and run by a Dutchman, you are in good hands. :-) Also an asset in providing a refreshing and open-minded take on German history and culture.
Doing things a bit backwards we booked ourselves in this tour on our last day and realised we missed a few tricks. We had the fortune to be led by Rob S of Manchester who was excellent in terms of his breadth of knowledge for his adopted city. He was incredibly relatable and ensured every member of our large & diverse group felt included. His mancunian humour came out when interacting with members of the group and discussing the nuances & quirks of Berlin & its inhabitants. However it must be said that what this awesome city has endured is inconceivable to us westerners and liberal thinkers fortunate to live in democratic societies and Rob's ability to help us visualise what living in those conditions was like was incredible. Would recommend in a heartbeat and he was so true in that you cannot visit this city only once as we will be coming back and will definitely book another tour.
Scott was absolutely phenomenal, he shared insights and wisdom into not only the history and the story of the city but into the people, culture and art as well. I absolutely loved and valued how he invited us to explore the deeper meaning of each aspect on our own and allowed us to come to our own informed conclusions from what we felt and the knowledge he shared with us. It takes someone pretty special to make such a heartbreaking story so powerful and beautifully inspiring.
Johan was our guide, and, boy, did he guide us on a glorious sunny day in Berlin for 4.5 glorious hours. Good to meet Murphy (Johan's dog) too. She was a star. Not only did were do Cold War sites and tales but were managed to fit in some Nazi/Hitler history too. Fantastic! Highly recommended. And a great way to see bits of Berlin you never otherwise would.
Jared’s enthusiasm for Berlin, it’s residents and history shine through. He clearly went above and beyond expectations, whilst appreciated by the majority, his enthusiasm extended the tour beyond the stated times, but seen as a great bonus by us!...
