Top 5 things to see on Museum Island

Museum Island is worth a visit for the architecture alone, with Berlin's biggest and best exhibits shared between colossal structures that include the city's old cathedral. Here are some of the highlights among the various collections!

The Ishtar Gate

The Pergamon Museum boasts ancient monumental treasures such as the Ishtar Gate and Market Gate of Miletus. Unfortunately, the Pergamon itself is closed for renovations until 2019!

The Hildesheim Treasure

The Hildesheim Treasure

One of the largest collections of Ancient Roman silver was discovered by Prussian soldiers in Hildesheim, Germany. Dating back to 1AD, see it in all its glory at the Altes Museum.

The Bust of Nefertiti

The Bust of Nefertiti

On display at the Neues Museum is one of Ancient Egypt's most recognizable artifacts. It provides remarkable insight into the civilization's royal and artistic cultures.

The Forty Martyrs of Sabaste

The Forty Martyrs of Sabaste

Among the Bode Museum's impressive collection of Byzantine art is this haunting 10th-century ivory relief of 40 soldiers frozen to death under the persecution of Licinus I.

Iron Rolling Mill

Iron Rolling Mill

Not a real "Eisenwalzwerk" of course, but one of Adolf Menzel's most brutally atmospheric paintings. It's exhibited alongside many German masterpieces at the Alte Nationalgalerie.

Tailor-made, inspiring and informative, expertise and subtle details

An excellent introduction and overview for a first-time or returning visitor. Inspiration for further discoveries and valuable tips beyond your average guide(book) or website. Expert knowledge combined with anecdotal local insight, presented in a digestible and engaging manner in impeccable English. The tour makes you reflect upon and appreciate Berlin's defining historical moments and their link with architecture, urban planning and contemporary culture. An ideal balance between serious content and more light-hearted and friendly dialogue with a qualified professional. The personal viewpoints and interpretation provided food for thought. We particularly appreciated the effort to make the tour enjoyable even for children (aged 9-12) who remained engaged throughout and set up with appropriate bikes. When your bike tour is organised and run by a Dutchman, you are in good hands. :-) Also an asset in providing a refreshing and open-minded take on German history and culture.

Incredibly informative tour delivered with humour and poignance

Doing things a bit backwards we booked ourselves in this tour on our last day and realised we missed a few tricks. We had the fortune to be led by Rob S of Manchester who was excellent in terms of his breadth of knowledge for his adopted city. He was incredibly relatable and ensured every member of our large & diverse group felt included. His mancunian humour came out when interacting with members of the group and discussing the nuances & quirks of Berlin & its inhabitants. However it must be said that what this awesome city has endured is inconceivable to us westerners and liberal thinkers fortunate to live in democratic societies and Rob's ability to help us visualise what living in those conditions was like was incredible. Would recommend in a heartbeat and he was so true in that you cannot visit this city only once as we will be coming back and will definitely book another tour.

So worth it! It was an incredibly fun and in-depth look at the city.

Scott was absolutely phenomenal, he shared insights and wisdom into not only the history and the story of the city but into the people, culture and art as well. I absolutely loved and valued how he invited us to explore the deeper meaning of each aspect on our own and allowed us to come to our own informed conclusions from what we felt and the knowledge he shared with us. It takes someone pretty special to make such a heartbreaking story so powerful and beautifully inspiring.

Well paced and extremely knowledgeable tour

Jared’s enthusiasm for Berlin, it’s residents and history shine through. He clearly went above and beyond expectations, whilst appreciated by the majority, his enthusiasm extended the tour beyond the stated times, but seen as a great bonus by us!...

Recommended but check first all opened sections!

Very well in managing queues. Not enough information in advance on the closing sections (very relevant part): compared to the section opened and allowed to be visited, the paid price for three persons family was high.
