What people are saying about Munich

One of the best day-trips I have been to

I will recommend this trip very highly. If you are going to Munich, Neuschwanstein castle is a must-see. And this trip made it a comfortable and a happy experience for me. Getting to the castle by yourself from Muncih is a bit of a hassle. You have to book and arrange a lot of public transportation. There is a lot of rush so its very difficult to get the tickets on short notice. If you want to buy the tickets at the castle you have to stand in a 3 hour long queue. Even if you have booked tickets to the Neuschwanstein castle yourself, you have to be there 1.5 hours before your booked time-slot to collect the tickets otherwise your booking is cancelled. When I went on this trip, we were accompanied by a guide (Erwin) starting from the Munchen station to the castle. All the transportation was arranged beforehand and was comfortable. He accompanied us to the top and told us the entire story of the king and this castle. Overall I was extremely satisfied by the arrangements and the guide

A great experience overall (once an initial hick-up had been resolved)

The actual boarding process in Munich was very confusing & could be handled a LOT better. Even though two of their employees viewed our voucher, we ended up on the wrong bus & had to contend with a very rude & arrogant tour guide. When we arived at Linderhof Castle, I asked if this sort of mix up had happened before. His response, "Yes." When I asked how it was fixed, he responded by saying, "It cannot." I immediately made my displeasure known... quite vocally. By the time the Linderhof tour was over, this tour guide introduced me to another guide, who was from the correct bus, and we then joined the correct tour. From then on, it was great. The original tour guide was also observed in a heated discussion with a pair of American girls who'd been split off from their friends in Munich. I don't know what the outcome of their issue was, but I observed him bieng as rude and arrogant to them as he had been to me. In view of this, I would not recommend Grayline Tours to anyone.

Beautiful and busy day trip to see beautiful castles!

If you're looking to see multiple castles in Germany, go for the VIP tour! We went with a group of 6, and we had a blast. The bus was roomy, comfortable, and stocked with snacks, drinks, and even happy hour wine and beer. Our driver was excellent and drove very carefully on some of the super-curvy roads - no Dramamine required. The schedule was tight, so you don't get to really wander much, but you do get lots of direction and everything is very efficient. It's not a tour for dawdlers or those who like to explore away from the group. The castles were gorgeous (even under lots of construction), and our tour guide was helpful and knowledgeable. One minor complaint is that there was a LOT of talking by our guide on the bus, pretty much non-stop for the entire duration of the tour, and I would have preferred some time to just drink in the scenery, enjoy some music, or chat with my friends without a constant drone of (semi-related) facts. That said, it was still a great time!

A true marvel (must be fit to go there...)

The pick up, coordination, and the guide all were excellent. Only guarantee to go inside the castle is with this tour because the regular ticket line was impossible. Go with this tour and avoid any problems. HOWEVER... the castle is located on top of a VERY steep hill and our guide let the group decide if they wanted to walk uphill or go in a bus. The group choose to walk. The guide gave NO OPTION for anyone who wanted to take the bus, to keep us "together". Yeah right... If your group also decides to walk, then be prepared to walk 50 minutes UPHILL at a 45 degree angle. No kidding... Walking uphill for 50 minutes, IS NOT for everybody, much less for older people or kids. There is NOTHING interesting to see along the way. Just trees and vegetation. So why just not take the bus on the way up! Now, when you reach the top and you see that magnificent castle and the view, you forget you lost all your energy getting there. It was a good trip, but BE PREPARED.

Get the right guide, and it makes this tour outstanding

We had Sarah as our guide. She has great knowledge of Ludwig and his kingdom. She told “The Story” from childhood to cover every aspect of his life, and delivered in increments that made the journey to The castle seem effortless. Conscious of her team and time constraints, she made the tour a joy. I hate tours, though if I was guaranteed of a Sarah every time, I’d book one.
