What people are saying about Meteora

Mesmerizing trip - long journey but worth it

Great organization by travel company, train tickets received electronically a few days before trip and tour bus was waiting for us upon arrival to Meteora. Long day but well worth it for the spectacular views (plus the town was a little sleepy not sure if it would be worth staying overnight). The guide was informative and funny while he provided commentary on the bus between picture spots and monasteries. Tips: there are dress codes (not explicitly mentioned) girls needed to wear skirts and cover shoulders (shawls and sarongs were provided at entrances for free) while guys had to have pants that went below the knee where the nuns were, they would not let them use sarongs & were quite strict - would pack a pair of jeans to be able to go in.

Wonderful time in an extrordinary place.

An amusing and knowledgable courier who guided us smoothly throught the major sights. The order of the visits was sensible, with the most strenuous first. Each of the abbeys was special in its own way: whether it was the remarkable frescoes of the Great Meteora, the more intimate Varlaam abbey or the lovely formal gardens of St. Stephens. Varlaam paid somewhat more attention to the visitor experience with, for instance, appropriate music playing in the antechurch and clear walkways to help visitors move around smoothly. Our courier was careful to make sure that the group were briefed on eating and drinking needs. The supply of water bottles were very welcome.

Learned so much about this amazing place

This is a great tour. We did it the first day we arrived to learn more about the area and the monasteries then spent the next 2 days hiking. Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. The monasteries and views are amazing and the sunset was breathtaking. The only downfall was that there was a Spanish speaking family who had an interpreter with them. I’m not sure if this was supplied by the tour company or if he was a personal friend, but he had to repeat everything the guide said and as it was a small bus, and he was rather loud, this was quite distracting.

Great trip with wonderful guide and driver

We had a fabulous time. Everything was perfect and Martina, our guide, was full of knowledge. The hotel was great (we went first class), although at first we had a twin instead of a double. We were able to arrange a swap with the hotel. The only thing we’d change would be to have a toilet on the bus and to stop at a different lunch place coming home (food was very ordinary, high pressure selling and really only main course meals - all we wanted was a sandwich or roll. Other than that - fabulous!

The train trip was a excellent idea to experience the landscape.

The trip on day of arrival was an amazing experience. The sunset and everything. Evelyn and Kostas were both great as guide and drivers. I would suggest that you think of something like taking people to the countryside instead of 2nddays to monestries and the 3rd day of just hanging around doing nothing while waiting till its time for the train to leave.... The second visit to monestries could rather be worked in on 3rd day while you show the people the forests and stuff on 2nd day.
