Full description
Our full-day motor coach tour takes you on a visit to Avila and Segovia, two of Spain’s oldest cities. Medieval walls dating from the 11th century surround Avila and Segovia features one of the best-preserved aqueducts from the Roman era.

One of the oldest cities in the country, Avila was originally protected by walls constructed 10 centuries ago and that still stand today. This is a classic example of a fortified city. Inside you will explore its quarters and see Gothic palaces, Romanesque churches and a 12th-century cathedral. Spain’s first Gothic cathedral was built here, and is also fortified.

You’ll see the exterior of the cathedral, the Romanesque Basilica of San Vicente, and the city’s main square before taking a short walk through Avila’s ancient streets to the Convent of Saint Therese. Avila was the birth place of Saint Therese, who was important Spanish Catholic mysticism.

Segovia is our next stop. The city dates from the Roman era and has an abundance of historical monuments. You’ll see the magnificent Roman aqueduct dating from the time of Augustus, and you’ll want to take photos of the city’s elegant cathedral and the Alcazar fortress as well. The Alcazar is considered Spain’s most spectacular castle.

You’ll have time to enjoy lunch in Segovia before we return to Madrid.

The bus was good. Very clean and good for viewing. Everything left on time. The tapas was bad. Almost inedible, and very poor service. Do not add them to your program. The monuments part of the program all good. Defiantly do them in the program. The sound system that the guide used was bad. The company needs to upgrade. The static was unbearable at times. You had to stand right next to him to eliminate the static.

Well thought out

Guide was knowledgeable, considerate with those who follow rules and not overly strict with those who don’t. Lunch was quite good, not very friendly waitresses though. Driver wasn’t particularly smooth, could have done a better job. Make sure to wear very comfortable shoes! A lot of walking involved. Over-all, despite some nitpicking, this is an activity well worth doing.

Fun tour

This was a fun tour visiting two castles and a very ornate cathedral. Our guide was lively and gave us a wealth of information during the tour. We had some free time to explore around the aqueduct in Segovia and to buy refreshments and/or souvenirs. I did not personally care much for the tourist lunch and wish I had chosen tapas, but many people enjoyed it.
