Full description
Start the tour at 10 AM in Commercial Square by the Tagus River. Receive a brief introduction to Lisbon and its history, from its pre-historic occupation to the Roman period, the big earthquake of 1755, and all the way to the present day.

Next, visit the Mayor's Office square, passing the place where King Carlos I and Crown Prince Luís Filipe were murdered in 1908. See the Mayor's Office building and the old pillory or whipping post where criminals used to be punished for their crimes. Pass the site where a section of the city’s 13th-century wall was recently discovered. Proceed to Rossio Square, the historic heart of the city, which today looks very different from its pre-earthquake incarnation, but still has many fascinating stories to tell.

After this, visit an amazing burned down church which is still in use. Then pass the National Theatre on the way to Lisbon’s former Central Station - a beautiful neo-gothic building from the 19th-century. Make your way to the Carmo Square to see the ruins of the 14th-century Carmo Church and enjoy the view from the Santa Justa Lift.

After a short break, move on to Alfama, through the Chiado, Baixa, and Mouraria neighborhoods. Learn about the legend of Lisbon's patron saint and admire views from Portas do Sol Square over the Tagus River, the south bank, and the maze-like Alfama neighborhood below. Finally, immerse yourself in the narrow alleyways of one of the oldest quarters of Lisbon, and explore some of its secrets. End the tour by Lisbon's 12th-century cathedral and Saint Anthony of Lisbon Church, very close to where you started.
