Full description
Start the tour at 10 AM in Commercial Square by the Tagus River. Receive a brief introduction to Lisbon and its history. Proceed to the Alfama neighborhood, passing the unusual Casa dos Bicos (House of Spikes), a 16th-century palace with a unique façade in the Campo das Cebolas square (Onion Field square).

Go inside the old Lisbon city wall and visit the last of Lisbon's Jewish quarters, the 14th-century Judiaria de Alfama (Alfama Jewish Quarter). Learn about this region's history as you pass the place where the old Synagogue building used to stand. Find out why it was never allowed to be used as a place of worship by the Jewish community who built it. Remaining in the Alfama area, explore many narrow streets and alleyways. Pass by a public bathhouse, beautiful fountains, small squares, and the Fado Museum. Learn about Fado (translated as fate or destiny), the beautiful and oftentimes sad song of Lisbon, which was born in these streets, but has roots in old Iberian, African, and South-American traditions.

Then, visit the famous Feira da Ladra Flea Market, which takes place every Tuesday and Saturday near the National Pantheon and S. Vicente Church in Campo de Santa Clara. After a short break, we make your way up to the Graça neighbourhood. Discover its churches, convents, small gardens, and stunning views. Hear about the strange local legends, such as the one surrounding the marble chair of Roman Lisbon’s first bishop, St. Gens, which is kept in a small chapel on a hill with fantastic views of Lisbon and the Tagus.

On your way back down to the city center, stop in at an old Workers' Village known for its distinctive architecture. See some great examples of street art, from tile panels to graffiti. Finish the tour in the Mouraria neighborhood, in the recently renovated Intendente Square.
