Full description
Day 1

Take the express train from JR Shin-Osaka Station or Tennoji Station to Kii-Tanabe Station. Have lunch there, then take the Ryujin bus and meet your guide at “Kodo-Arukinosato-Chikatsuyu” bus station. From here, enjoy an hour walking tour with a local guide. All kinds of people, from emperors to aristocrats, have walked the pilgrimage path to Kumano for over 1000 years.

Your guide will then take you to the bus to Kawayu Hot Spring where you will stay. Your accommodation is in the Kawayu Hot Spring “Midoriya”, which is known as an open-air riverside bath. It is the best way to relax your feet after a long walk.

Day 2

After check-out, meet a local guide at the hotel lobby and proceed to Hosshinmon-oji, known as the gate of holy sanctuary. Walk 6.9km of the Kumano Kodo walking route with an English-speaking guide. Kumamo Kodo is the only world heritage registered pilgrimage route besides the Camino de Santiago. Enjoy scenery of villages, tea plantations, cedar trees and old ancient roads.

Then head to the Kumano Hongu Taisha Shrine and the Oyunohara Shrine to stroll around with the guide. The guide will then get you on a bus to Kii-Tanabe station, where you will take the express train back to Shin-Osaka or Tennoji station.
