Full description
Experience the ghost town of Chernobyl and learn about the infamous disaster with this unique 2-day group tour. After meeting your guide in Kiev and having your passport details checked, set off in comfortable vehicles with Wi-Fi and air conditioning. After travelling through the countryside for 2 hours, you will reach checkpoint Dytiatky, the main entrance to the exclusion zone. Following passport checks and radiation safety rules, your tour will start in earnest.

Drive through the eerie exclusion zone, where nature and wildlife have once more taken over. Keep your eyes open as your travel for foxes, wild boar, deer, moose and even wolves. Stop in the village of Zalissya, with almost 700 abandoned and uninhabited houses. Continue on to Chernobyl, which is nowadays the busiest part of the zone. Almost 5,000 people work and live there in shifts. See infamous sites such as the statue of Lenin, the river port with sunken boats and the memorial ‘to those who saved the world’.

Following your first day of exploration, check into one of the hotels in Chernobyl town – but keep the 10:00 PM curfew in mind, as the hotel will be locked from this time. After a restful night, get ready for another day of discovery. If your group is interested, you might have the opportunity to visit and speak to local babushkas. Explore the military base, including the command center and secret bunker, full of soviet military propaganda.

After lunch, explore Prypiat in depth as you visit the fire station, a collapsed school and a police station, with its holding cells and interrogation rooms! Then, it’s time to head back to civilization, once you’ve passed obligatory radiation control at the checkpoint. Sit back and take in the sights as you are transferred back to Kiev.

Amazing experience - thank you Johnny and Gamma Tour!

I've opted for a two day tour, because I thought one day just wouldn't be enough to visit all the places and take enough pictures. The first thing said by our amazing guide, Johnny, is the same - two days are definitely needed to explore the Exclusion Zone. Johnny has been amazing at managing expectations (don't expect a 5 star hotel, don't expect mint condition german Autobahn roads), while pointing out all key safety measures taken throughout the trip. He has been an attentive and charismatic leader, walking us through places I dreamed of visiting. While the place definitely holds heavy memories and will affect you emotionally (I would compare it to a Dachau visit from this perspective), Johnny has also been a fun and light-hearted beacon throughout the trip. His knowledge of all the Chernobyl-related events and his accurate and flawless English are also key elements to point out. Of course, there are certain places that we didn't visit - but he summarized those locations as well.

Once in a lifetime experience.

I highly enjoyed the 2 day tour and it was definitely worth booking the extra day. Throughout the tour, the guide spoke excellent English and had large amounts of knowledge about Chernobyl. The tour was completely safe and our guide took extra precautions to guide us out of any mishaps. We were well fed during those 2 days and the hotel we stayed at in Chernobyl had all the necessities. We got to see all the highlights of Chernobyl as well as a few extra secret spots. After a full 2 day tour, my radiation levels clocked in at 7 microsieverts (which is the same as an airplane flight) so the radiation in Chernobyl is already pretty low 33 years after the accident. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
