What people are saying about Kalabaka

I had an absolutely fabulous day on this trip. It was with some trepidation that I booked this trip as the reviews were mixed. However, I can honestly say this was my favourite day in Greece and the long train journey was absolutely worth it. Meteora itself is completely incredible, and was made even better by the very comfortable transport and highly professional, attentive and knowledgeable guide, who has lived in the area his whole life and had lots of interesting knowledge to share. He tailored the trip to suit me as I was the only one on the trip, and was so kind in offering to take photos at the viewpoints and stop off for refreshments etc. I felt that the day was very good value for money and that the train ride was surprisingly comfortable and straightforward. I stayed at a hotel near the station just to make things a little bit easier. The only problem was the company's insistence that tickets were printed rather than just shown on a phone, as I don't this this was necessary.

Great tour to a fantastic destination. Sure, the trip is a little long, but it is very much worth it. Our tour guide Lazarous gave us a lot of information on the way there, during our time at Meteora we were free to roam around at our own pace, while our guide was available for questions. We visited two monasteries, as well as a viewpoint which commanded a view of five of the six monasteries still in operation. The lunch place at Kastraki is (as others have mentioned) somewhat expensive, but you are not in any way obligated to have lunch there. You can go into town on your own, or even hike back up the road. Right behind the restaurant (marked with a sign) there is also a little trail which loops around the base of the foothills and ends where a series of caves in the rockface begin. Can recommend doing this for those who don't want to spend a whole our on lunch. We were very pleased with the punctuality and professionality of the organization. A great trip in all!

It’s a long trip from Athens. But well worth it if you have an extra day. Everything worked smoothly. The e ticket for the train came by email with good instructions. At the station look for the train number and then the coach number. The guide was waiting for the train when it arrived. A very nice driver and guide in a very clean, new looking vehicle. The trip visited 3 monasteries inside at an extra 3 Euros each, with plenty of stops for photos and views. Take snacks as places to buy them are limited and there’s no real meal opportunity until maybe 45 minutes before catching the train back to Athens.

Excellent! Great explanation of the variety of monasteries and more specially of the frescoes and imaging you can find inside. Apart from that everything was carefully explained how Meteora got its current shape. To top this off with plenty of time during all this to take pictures during riding and at the sunset place in the end. Very modern bus to drive us around and excellent driving.

Meteora: Sunset Tour from Kalambaka Reviewed by D, 15/10/2020

Getting to the monasteries can be long and difficult. The tour bus picked me up from my accommodation and we visited 2 of the monasteries which were still open. We saw all the rest and had time to take photos which was perfectly adequate. The day I did the tor the weather was appalling heavy mist and rain but the driver and guide did their very best in the trying circumstances.
