Full description
Set under the shadows of Mount Ida, Troy is famous for the legend of the Trojan Horse, the Trojan War, and for its beautiful Queen of Sparta, Helen of Troy.

This full-day private tour is for you and up to 10 of your family or friends. You will get to see the ruins of the once thriving city, located in the Dardanelles. And you will be taken to nearby Gallipoli, site of the famous World War 1 battlefield at Anzac Cove.

After an early morning pick-up from your Istanbul hotel, you will drive along the sea of Marmara to the ancient city of Troy. Once one of the most important cities in northwest Anatolia, today it sits in ruins on the plain of Ilium and is an archaeological wonderland close to the town of Çanakkale.

You will have lunch at Çanakkale after the ferry ride across the Dardanelles. You will then explore the ruins at Troy, with only the impressive views across the Dardanelles and towards Mount Ida to distract you.

Travelling on by air-conditioned coach, you will continue your excursion to the haunting site of the Battle of Gallipoli. Subject of a 1981 film starring a young Mel Gibson, it is located on the narrow peninsula opposite Çanakkale and was the setting of the first major World War 1 battle undertaken by Australian and New Zealand troops.

Both nations suffered terrible casualties and the battle marked a significant victory for the Turkish campaign against the Allies. Commemorated every year in April on Anzac Day, you will visit Anzac Cove where the Allied troops first landed, see the marble and bronze memorial monuments, and visit the poignant war cemeteries.

You will depart for the return drive to Istanbul in the afternoon, stopping for dinner along the way.
