What people are saying about Hovedøya Island
Nice and relaxing on a sailing boat around the waters and islands around Oslo. Very little interaction with the crew who could have been a little more engaged with the people on the boat. Nobody tells you anything about what you're looking at. Overall though, the cruise was fun. The food on the other hand is advertised as prawn buffet. What they don't tell you is that besides prawns, there's a bit of bread and lettuce. So much of your time is spent peeling the prawns which were maybe the smallest I've seen. There's nothing provided for you to clean your hands while you're peeling them. Big let down. Norwegian traditional food would have been a much better experience and there shouldn't be anything served that requires the passengers to put so much work into just to get something to eat.
I enjoyed this trip a lot. It was a beautiful summer's evening and taking the cruise was a relaxing way to spend pass the time. The boat is very nice and the staff are welcoming and helpful. The food is plentiful and whilst not exactly haute cuisine is quite acceptable (so long as you like prawns!). For the price, it's good value for money considering the cost of most things in Oslo. I have only two complaints really - the muzak was inappropriate and the presence of people smoking was hugely annoying. The fjord is enough for the senses without pop music and given the packing density on the boat it should be non-smoking - esp over dinner.
Overall fantastic day. The tour was lovely. Our lovely guide gave us a very nice introduction on Oslo’s History and general Norwegian ways of life before starting our island hopping Tour. I really loved that we used the public boat. It made me feel like a local:) . Even though our group was relatively big, our guide made us feel like we were all friends and she managed to have that personal touch with everyone. A real talent! I would recommend to anyone this tour be one of the first things you do when visiting Oslo.
Great excursion on a beautiful boat! The boat tour was not too long and not too short. Shrimp buffet was good, even though it was wasted on my wife and kids who don't like shrimp. Norwegians are always prepared for cold weather. The boat is stocked with blankets for the guests, and after an hour we needed them because we didn't bring jackets. They also served hot chocolate, along with beer and wine. Opportunity to talk to other people or keep to yourself. Highly recommended.
The tour started in the city center and we walk to the ferry. The guide was very knowledgeable and shared a lot of interesting information about the islands. We had good weather and could enjoy the beach too. I would recommend the tour to everyone who is interested in the history of islands. It absolutely worth the time and money. Do not forget good shoes and swimsuits :) ;)
