What people are saying about Heraklion
Meet-up process was very simple, and buying tickets was very easy as they walked up with us to the special window they have for guides to buy tickets. 10 in our group, which was perfect - watching as other groups of 40 or more went by, I was very happy with our tour. Calypso was a very knowledgeable and thorough guide, who had great knowledge of the site, and especially of the history. Also great at finding shade, which is appreciated in July. :)
Well organised trip and had a brilliant day. It was a long day being picked up at 6am and not getting back to hotel until 10pm but thoroughly enjoyed it. The Gorge is awesome and the walk was challenging in the heat but well worth the effort. The swim in the sea at the end was heavenly as was the cold beer after! Getting the boat back for part of the way was fab and also the stop for souvlaki being cooked outside for us.
Comfortable bus ride to East coast of Crete, followed by a boat ride by a local charter, lunch on board with a stop on Spinalonga, finishing with a short stop in Agios Nikolaos. Wish we would have visited the island before swimming in the bay. Avoid buying any food/drink at Spinalonga: huge rip off (5 euro for 330 ml of water???). Otherwise, decent way to spend the day.
Joanna really knows her stuff, and offered enlightening insights into the minds of the people who lived in and around Knossos. Her descriptions of the thinking of the early Archeologists was also fascinating. A brilliant educational experience. To call it a 'tour' is somehow demeaning. This was no parrot reciting a script! Thanks. Kerry, New Zealand.
Well organized - competent guides unique difficulty : to approach local tour operator to define pick up point since we did not get confirmation mail on time. we struggled to keep in touch with the tour operator. For non English speaking difficult to talk over the phone with local people
