What people are saying about George Street, Edinburgh
Truly one of the most enjoyable tours I have participated in. The group was small (five people - says never more than 10), the guide a local (member of the Usher family, who have lived in Edinburgh for several generations, at least, and so very knowledgeable. The two other tours I had in Edinburgh were led by foreigners, who focused on acting and theatrics to tell stories, as opposed to just relating facts and information. Further, the Usher's will adjust their tour based upon the needs and desires of their participants, as opposed to a canned script. Recommend the Usher's tour to anyone truly interested in learning about Edinburgh in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. A+ in my book!
Our guide, Gordon, was personable, funny and interesting and knew an incredible amount about the history of Edinburgh and Scotland. He started by asking us exactly what we hoped to get out of the tour and adapted as required. We were full of questions and he always knew the answers as well as having many interesting or amusing anecdotes that made the tour more interesting than being told a stream of dates and facts. We had a tremendous time and couldn't have asked for a better guide. Thanks Gordon!
The walk through Edinburgh was very lively. As Mr. Usher was very knowledgeable we got to know a lot of E.'s history and stories lying behind. So we'd recommend the tour to other interested people, too. My wife and me were -beside our friends- the only guests that -sunny- morning. Having booked in advance was good and easy, so we had only to hand over the voucher.
Unfortunately I didn´t do the walk myself. I booked the tour for my parents who travelled through Scotland for a while. My correspondence with Stuart beforehand was very kind(?) so i had a good feeling. My parents confirmed that completely. They where very excited about the tour and Stuart, enjoyed it a lot and had a very good time.
Thank you Richard for the walk and you insights in Edinburghs history, geography and gastronomic. We tried the food and the Last Drop today and it was very very good - especially the chocolate brownie at the end. One of the best I have had - and none of them was ever in a pub. Many thanks again.
